There's a way to organize which programs automatically come up on starting the computer. Does anyone remember what this command is? I think it's in the Run box but I can't remember the specific command. I'm running Windows 98, if that makes a difference...

There is two different deciding factors, one is the startup menu which loads programs during startup and can be manually altered easily, there are two ways to access it. 1) Start --> Setting --> Taskbar and Menu. Click on the start menus tab, then just add the program you want to start and browse to it's directory and then double click the program file. 2) just drag and drop the program shortcut into the startup folder in the start menu

Bear in mind this will slow down system speed greatly

If you wish to delete them then i will give you run down on that

@Der-d, if you hit start/programmes/accessories/system tools/system information, you will see a tab labelled Start Up. Here you can select what programmes load when you start up your pc

I think the command your looking for is msconfig, type it into the run command.

Excuse my previous rambling

In Windows98, it is msconfig

Then click on the Startup tab.

There is a system information where you can view the files that load, but you can't alter them there, only in msconfig and regedit

LOL!

Ah! Ok. But that is silly! In WinME you just check the boxes of the items you want to load up then there is a button to click that deletes the orphan registry files...

Yes it is silly, but you have to use msconfig in Win98 Better than Win95 which didn't have any system for it at all

And of course they will never be sorted out since MS want us all to move over to XP

Yeah, well I'm going to stick it out with 98SE for as long as I can. I don't have a lot of problems with it, so since it ain't broke, I'm not going to "fix" it.

And i will stick to Win98 first release, i have found it better than SE

@Yshania: ??? I've got ME too, but mine works the same as win98se. Under the System Informations Tools menu there's a system configuration utility, aka msconfig.

start/programs/accessories/system tools/system information/tools/system configuration utility

Instead of start/run:msconfig

I think you're taking the long route. But perhaps i have a different version of ME.
