Annoying Bug where NPCs refuse to talk to me

I've had this bug going on in my most recent game that, while insanely annoying, isn't by any means a disaster (yet). In my other 3 saved games, I have yet to have this problem. Have no idea why it should start now. Anyhow, what happens is that nearly every time I try to talk to an NPC, it says that I can't initiate dialogue. The only way I have found to get around it is to use the CreateCreature command on the CLUA console then Ctrl+Y the original. Does anyone know what I might have done to make this bug, and perhaps how I might fix it? Thanks in advance, -Octracula

You might have been silenced, or cursed. Try talking to a preist to see if there are any curses on you.

You can just look at the charcter stat screen it should say near the top if your PC is affected by any spells or curses. If so go get a remove curse application.
And welcome to the board

Nope, no silenced. That's the most bizarre thing, some NPCs will talk to me at first, and if I spawn the NPC over again it will always talk to me. I have no idea what's going on.

Do you have any thrid party software being used with your game? In the past, I've noticed that some of the Baldurdash fixes have been known to create similar problems.

Last time this happens to me, it wasn't a bug. I had 13 different virus on my computer. Someone hacked into my computer and put virus there. After I reformated the drive and installed the game, the problem went away.

I do have that ending-shortener tweak from Baldurdash. Maybe that did it.

Errr... beginning shortener even. But still, it didn't do that to any of my other games. just this one.

Hmm. Luckily I backed up MOST of the files before I overrwrote them. Now, all of the quest NPCs that previously weren't talking are, but some of the minor ones still will not talk until I respawn them. This MIGHT be because for one file I unzipped into my overrwrite I forgot to save the originals. The files all were in the override folder, and they were: CUT01, CUT01A, CUT01B, CUT01C, CUT01D, CUT01E, CUT01F, CUT01G, and NewGame. If anyone could tell me where I might be able to download those files i would by very much grateful. Failing that, I think I'll just give reinstalling a whirl.

Could it also be the bug when you were talking to someone and were interupted by another NPC?
Like the guard in nalia's keep and the Aunt?
Mine once mucked around with the dialog options in that very scene, finally got rid of it at the Temple ruins (Talked to the statue to do the riddle IIRC). So it could be that.
Check the characters portrait on the r/h side of the main in-game screen, if they have a green oval in the Top left of the portrait (or is it top right?) and are not in dialog you have the same problem I had, get anyone who initiates dialog with you (not other way around) to get rid of it.
