... Paladin or fighter. Probably good aligned if fighter because healing abilities make it easier (or faster) to get out of the first dungeon. Maybe human fighter because you may want to dual later.

If it's your first solo, I'd recommend the Inquisitor (paladin kit).
His dispel magic and true sight will make your mage fights a LOT easier. Besides, you'll have to remember, that if you character gets charmed or mazed, it's the end to the game. The Inquisitor is most fortunately immune to hold and all charmspells...which means that you "only" have to watch out for the confusion and maze spells with this guy...as he's great in mêleé.

I think that you should go with the Paladin,
I am big fan of magic and Paladins can do magic.
Also you can tank up Paladins and there are some nice Paladin specific items throughout the game.
P.S: DOWN WITH MAGES.......NEVER!!!!!!!!!

Paladins get the lousiest strongholds IMO. The ranger stronghold is a bit better but the fighters' is the best, by far. Barbarians get the same stronghold as fighters (and monks).
BTW, the stalker (rangerkit) is good against mages too, since he can backstab (and doesn't have to run like hell afterwards, like most thieves). And if you take the love interest with you (s)he will always be able to cure you from most magical attacks.

I have gone for the Same kit as Keldron cantremember what it is called but any tips would help.
Why do human mages on the game all look like old men i mean aint u still young in the game?

I'd boost the two-handed weapons style and go for two handed swords, halberds and crossbows. The first equipment I'd go for are containers (gem bag, scroll case, ammo belt, potion case).

When you solo, you need a weapon that does blunt damage.
I'd go for proficiencies in Two-handed sword, quaterstaff, crossbow and twohanded weapon fighting..
As for equipment, you'll need the regular fighter things:
A good plate (regular full plate mail is the best in the early part, as you can wear the ring of protection with it to lower your saving throws.)
Some weapons, try to get a magical one asap.
An inquisitor can take the Atral prison at 8th level, so go for the boots of speed as soon as you can. Just be sure to have at least one weapon - that you can use with skill - to be +2 enchanted.
As for girdles, either a strengh belt if your natural strengh is low ,or the one that gives you protection from blunt weapons.
The rest is up to you.
It's not too difficult to know what to equip - just use the things that gives you the lowest AC.
And I'd recommend Lilarcor to be your primary weapon in the beginning - nice enchantment - and most importantly, it grant you immunity to confusion. With this sword all that can render the Inquisitor helpless is Stun (always have more than 90 HP if you can), Fear (low saves prevent this one) and Maze (whack the wizard before he casts this sucker at you) - nice for an 8th level character I think...

Go for Jaheira or Aerie; you need someone to heal...I'd lean towards Aerie, coz she can haste, breach, and other fun and useful things.

Oyah, and go inquisitor for solo.
The insane amounts of magic resist you can get with amulet of magic resistance, potions, and Carosmyr will destroy SO many mages. And do try to have high strength, so you can wear the inertial barrier. That and Carsomyr make you pretty much invulnerable to mages.

Id go for a ranger/cleric multiclass , this gives you all the nice cleric immunity spells , like death ward and chaotic commands. Being ranger you also get access to the druid line of cleric spells , which can be extremly good against large groups of enemies (insect plague/creepingdoom). The ranger cleric also gets stealth (if you use the right armor). Since rangers use 10 sided dice for hps and clerics use an 8 sided , you will almost have as many hps as a pure fighter. Youll also have early access to the cleric and fighter high lvl abilites . The biggest bonus however is ironskins, going solo means getting to a high lvl fast, so many of your encounters will be against the maximun enemies you can face. When your maxed out youll have 9 5th lvl spells , that means 6-8 ironskins (need chaotic commands too

, ironskins casting time is 1 , consider that youll be useing the amulet of power, and they are "insta-cast" which makes them invaluable for large melee battles. Youll have to stick to blunt weapons but that is not a problem at all, you can just summon some skell warriors if you are fighting stone golems. All this with all the melee strength of a regular fighter, and it is hard for me to imagine a more powerful character. I personally took one all the way through SoA and ToB , i found it a good challenge .

personally, for me I prefer the ranger

excellet fighting abilities and good hps and armor(if your and elf you get the 19 dex bonus and +1 long swords) I usually put 2pts into Katana (Celestial Fury) and 2pts into Long Sword (Equalizer and when you get into hell, Blackrazor) and for the second time I play I went scimitars for my other choice (I like Drizzt) I haven't beaten it for my 2nd time but I'm almost there
