Well hey all,
i am in watchers keep, level 5 i think.
i have taken out the mindflayers and the gilythanki (sp?), and the dragon.
i want to kill the demi liche, but the bugger keeps on imprisioning my characters and the i am stuck.
i know there is a spell to release imprisoned ones, i used it in the Underdark, but i can't rememeber what it is called or where i can find it...if anyone knows please tell me.
secondly i would like tips on how to beat the bugger, it seems magic resistant and magic weapons resistant.
i have tried sending in Nalia and Imoen in to blast it with remove spell protections but then they get imprisoned and i get my main character shouting " nope i can'nt carry any more.....THAT ones on the ground", which as you can imagine is a bit annoying after a while
.

Freedom is the spell your thinking of. Reload works too. Try Spell Immunity - school that Imprison is from. This should let someone stand up to that pesky Demi-Liche. - Curdis !

Protection from undead scroll to avoid any counter attacks.
Demi is invul to all but +4 or +5 enchanted weapons.
Melfs and energy blades work also methinks, but they take like 1 hp a hit. I'd just use the ring of ram(two if ya pickpocket) and then just smack it down with two melfs wield'n folks with decent thac0.

I just spawned as many animals and summons i had(preferably wands--much faster) to soak up his imprisonment spells. I left my head guy and Imoen(cuz she is the only one that had the spell freedom on her. And sent my other guys in the room with the demi-lich and very soon he was gone, although i did lose Minsc and Cernd. Imoen just brought them back after the battle.

it's all about the traps and the ring of the rams, i don't seem to recall any creatures being resistant or immune to either of those. With three ring of the rams you can kick some serious but.

An alternative to whack demi-liches is berserk mode. Korgan is a perfect demi-lich killer.

if you want the mages to get credit use spell immunity abjuration and melf or energy blades.
if you want a warrior to get credit use prot from undead and staff of ram....think smaking it around, with a nice satisfying crunch.
demi liches are pushovers....
oh cast deathward on char to get bragging right, sometimes you dont save vs the demi lich howl
I usually give to char that has no signicficant kill stat...

Here is how I did it, and it worked without fail in more than one game, with no need to re-load, even though some preperation is needed.
First, summon 1 cannon fodder creature at the steps the demi-lich is up, I use skeleton warriors. Summon 3-4 more just out of the stair's sight. Have all your people stand out of the stair's sight with the 3-4 fodder creatures.
Next, have another one person go up the stairs, waste his howl, and then lure the floating skull down the stairs. The luring character should run out of the sight of the stairs before the lich gets down. The lich's death spell contingency will destroy the 1rst fodder creature, and just as this happens, have the other fodder creatures move in.
He will waste his imprisonments on the other fodder creatuers, and then you should summon a plantar/deva to attack him, which you may or may not have prepared before-hand, depending on how many fodder creatures you chose to use. With his imprisons and death spell gone, neither he nor your summoned angel can do damage to each other, so after that point you just have a fighter or mage hand him his ass..... errr, considering he doesn't have one, what would you hand him? You get the idea anyway.... it's a pretty reliable tactic, except occaisionally he might have an imprison or two left after he finishes with your fodder creatures, which can lead to complications.
This tactic worked well enough to me, but because I use no cheats what-so-ever this may be more complicated than most of you need.

No cheats EVER used here.....totally against it

A lot of fodder, planetars, freedomspells?
Listen to UserUnfriendly:
Spell Immunity: Abjuration! It's a 5th level mage spell and if you want to be absolutely sure that your mage won't die from his demilich-howl, throw in a Spell Immunity: Necronancy.
He's vulnerable to spells also, just use highlevel ones, if you dislike going melee or throw MMM or EB.

Question:
Demi-liches are suposed to be imune to spells up to level 9 (I say suposed because I never tried to target them with a spell).
Will High Level spells work against them? They are level 10 at the description, but are cast from level 9 slots.
Not that it matters much, you only face 1 demi-lich after getting the special abilities...
Other question:
Is it considered "cheese" whack liches and demi-liches under a Protection from Undead scroll? They don´t even react! But what uses could have the scrolls, then?

well thank or all the tips.
Andarian i think that we may have crossed wires.
The demi-liche i am talking about is in watchers keep, and is in a room in the gilthanki camp.
There are no stairs in the room, well not that i can see anyway, unless i am being very very blind ( this has hapened before so lets not rule that option out
).
All that is there is : a tomb in the middle of the room and the liche in the top left hand corner.
I would try to summon before i went into the room, but the summons can't travel though to different areas, which is a bugger.
Oh and one more thing, is the demi liche meant to be more or less powerful than a normal liche?

Summon a fire element and put protection from undead on it... it does pretty much damage to demi-liches (2-10).

By far more powerful.

Lets just say there are "cheesier" methods

Speaking of cheesier methods...
...such as getting your resident thief to lay down a coupla spike traps etc, getting a mage with spell imunity to run in, wait till he runs at you, leggit back upstairs. he follows you - all the traps trigger - one dead demi-liche.
Not that i would consider using such cheesy tactics...

Silvanerian, does spell immunity stack? I dont think so, it should replace current immunity..so if you cast spell immunity necroamncy, after casting spell immunity abjuration, I suspect you will be imprisoned in the first round. actually this would be a great way to test spell immunit stacking, so will try it out later, when I hit watchers after underdark....

A demi lich is what an ordinary lich becomes after a very long time indeed and as such (despite the name) are supposed to be much more nasty.
Protection from undead cant be considered cheese surely?? That is what they're for after all.

I meant the watchers keep one too. You have one character, perhaps with death ward and/or spell immunity on him, go upstairs into the demi-liches room and then run down once the demi-lich runs at him. He should start running at you after his demi-lich howl and when his first imprison is in mid-air, so try to make it down the stairs before it hits you.
Then you do the whole fodder tactic once down the stairs into the other zone- remember, neither zone is party-required so you can just send a single guy in there to get the lich out. I actually don't ever need the freedom's, the only time I might need one is when it imprisons my planetar, but once he has done that he is out of imprisons so I can just send anything else at him and it'll work. You could actually have the planetar beat the demi-lich alone, just cast globe of blades. But like I said, when he is busy with your planetar you can just have your mages bombard him with dragon's breath and other such things.
You can use this same tactic on the SoA demi-lich, but it is harder to get him to go for your fodder creatures because of the layout instead of your actual characters. It's the same thing once you've wasted his imprisons though, just blast him and whack him, anything that does extra damage vs undead or extra damage vs chaotic evil is a prime choice to use.

THE ULTIMATE fodder for killing a demi liche....(I killed Kangaxx this way), and most fun way is to use......limited wish.
Use the seemingly useless horde of rabbits while someone protected whacks him.....great fun!
