Me wants to KILL people

I wish that they`d implemented a sort of battleworld into the game. my idea goes as follows, instead of joining a multiplayer game..you can also join the battleworld...a big massive map where there is nothing more to do than just run round and kill people. You get 30 seconds before you enter this this world in a safe plane where you can buff yer party up before you get thrown into the world in a random location (possibly in the middle of a massive melee) It`d be great to show off your skills and show just how big `n bad you are by killing everyone. They could also spawn a few dragons, liches etc.. in every now and then just to make it harder.
There need be no bonus items..only one incentive to kill, survive, and recognition that you are a badass mofa

I thought that's what
Counterstrike was for.

I must admit that I am ignorant to these other games...only games I have are Command & Conquer Tiberian Sun, Baldurs Gate 1&2, Arcanum, Diablo II, and Civilisation Call to Power

If you want an all time big fun whack game get Total Annihilation (plus addon).
But besides that, I've been thinking about a "player killer" mode and often asked myself what character class would be most likely to win a duel. Most people in here have played lotsa powerful PCs, so what's the strongest class if push comes to shove, let's say at 5 million XP? My guess is fighter-mage.

hehe..I see this thread taking a completely different route perhaps
I can`t agree with you on the fighter/mage thing though.. a fighter thief has almost all of his abilities (loses contingencies, triggers etc..) with UAI, and has many more of his own

OK, UAI unbalances the F/T, especially because he can cast almost any spell from scrolls.
But the F/M still has mage HLA and if the F/M manages to cast a time stop / improved alacrity combo all is
not well for the F/T.
As we all know, there are endless variations of what could be cast during the time stop. Due to the great saving throws and item-based MR of high level characters I'd probably put most of my efforts into summonings (Planetar and Greater Elemental ...) and protection spells and finally switch to fighter with Tenser.

ya see, in a fight my Kensai/thief needs only a scroll of spell immunity, mislead and remove/dispel magic in my quick item slots, then upon using vhailors helm and doing a bit o` jiggery pokery with other scrolls I can have me little mate dispelling Protection from magical weapons and backstabbing people whilst remaining completely concealed...he`s quite evil really

Well, no need to convince me of the merits of that class, my actual F15/T18 halfling is a major threat. He's not an assassin nor does he wield Crom but his best regular backstab was 169 dmg so far - enough for any F/M without Tenser.
But backstabbing requires invisibility (true sight counters this, other things counter true sight) and a succesfull hit (many spells counter it, say improved mantle or invulnerability against magical weapons, even stoneskin, reinforced with spell trap).
I guess the scenarios of a duel are many, one strategy counters another and almost any class can win with the right strategy and a little bit of luck. But the summoning aspects of the F/M are quite impressive - and of course he can cast simulacrum, project image etc. at least as good the F/T can.

I think that i would be a good idea if someone made an online battleworld.
There could be an on going competition in each diferent class,
a battle zone for mages, paladins, clerics and for all the classes.
Each character would get to choose from a number of spells (if aplicable) and items before the battle and would have the to go into the battle with.
The winner of the battle would then get exp which would allow them to level up and move onto the next level of the competition, and enable them to choose better and better spells and items.
The winner would also get gold as a reward and this would let them buy specialst items from a shop or something like ribalds.
this is only an idea and probably hasto many holes in it but what do you all think about it?

They should make some online expansion like Diablo2:
1.a neutral ground to rest, chat, buy/sell and organise the stash.
2.a battleground where baddies live, so you can't level up or fight.
3.a set of labyrith to make the game more difficult like dungeon full of traps, plain island, boxing ring, church, graveyard, rainforest, snowy mountains or a maze.
4.people can choose to join a major gang bang, one-on-one or teams.
I wonder anyone will buy that?

a reply to one of the posts:
my little duplicate *can* safely backstab people unhindered by true sight merely by casting Spell Immunity>divination and one more thing... the Kensai/Thief is *the* Uber character

First of all we all know that everyone has fun with
his own char, and all can be powerful, if smartly used.
That said, I really think that the trick you
use (that of the Simulacrum's quick slots) goes FAR beyond
the intentions of the programmers, as well as the UAI.
I mean, they put only TWO Protection From Magic Scrolls,
the reason being that they are INCREDIBLY powerful and you
should use them TWO times in the game, NO MORE.
The same for other scrolls, they should be limited.
If instead you used, with your clone, items that are recharged
everyday, this would be a more legitimate way to play, IMHO.
If you played in PnP, no sane DM would let you do that trick
with limited items.
Anyway, even if you were allowed to used it, remember that a fighter/mage of any kind would be a very difficult oppenent,
thanx to the contingencies!!!
Do not underestimate this loss, for a F/T.
When you have all the (defensive) contingencies (and triggers!)
active, you find it very, very hard to die in any way!
And I don't mention Time Stop and Imp. Alacrity.
Don't misunderstand me, I have a fighter/thief in my actual game (second PC), and I like it very much, is one of the funniest chars.
But I think that in terms of pure power fighter/mages are really
the top, and they don't need any nasty trick to get the job
done!

I agree. A F/M can cast anything
without scrolls. Glitterdust and pierce magic should be able to deal with otherwise undetectable invisible characters, never tried it so far, but it should work. And the F/M can easily become physically invulnerable for a few rounds and raise hell with simulacrums, Planetars and Elemental summonings.
I even more agree that every character is special, btw I'm playing F/T too at the moment. I only wonder why no "sorc is best" has appeared so far.
BG2 itself is not designed for an arena mode, unfortunately. This would be fun to try strategies vs. strong characters and monsters. I just imagine my char standing in some kind of Circus Maximus and Firkraag walks in for a challenge.

Actually (and this for me is pretty rare!!), I agree with you. Now that my Kensai/mage has filled up his spell book with a good array of spells, I find no situation that he cannot handle.
However, for sheer power and cunning my Kensai/thief takes the edge. His best backstab so far is 420 with Kai, critical strike, Black Blade of disaster and Backstab.
I think that the 2 chars suit 2 different styles of play (but thats my opinion)

Yup.
The two classes definately play different and IMHO F/T is more fun to play, especially at low levels when the thief really runs the risks in the party. I've finished SoA once again today and my F/T managed to lead the overall game kill count in front of Korgan without me willingly influencing the situation (Korgan was a party member from the start and has Crom and Helm of Vailor - my F/T uses swords only, mostly short ones).
My personal problem with playing F/Ms is that they always turn into highly tuned fighting machines rather than spellcasters. Still a successful, but certainly not a best practice tactic.
