Good or evil: what are you?

Hey all,

I was just wondering what was more popular, being a good character or being a badass evil one.
I am always a good character.
In some places that has got me into trouble, like in the underdark when i went to ust natha (sp?) i saw a drow killing a duergar slave and without realising it i was attacking the drow and trying to save the duergar  .
And when i was helping the thieves i wold'nt do what Edwin said, it was about going to murder someone i think, and so i 'had' to kill him hee hee hee.

I think that it is better to be a good character fo some of the class abilitys, like good clerics blowing up skellies and undead, as opposed to controling them with a evil cleric.

Anyway thatsmy bit said for now :)

Depends on your definition of good or evil, I suppose.

Or for that matter, "neutral." I've never held with the simplistic D&D system set up years ago.

Mostly I like to play Chaotic Neutral of Chaotic Good - if I'm playing "seriously" (If that's altogether possible.. ) ;-)

I only change my alignment sometimes for the sake of variety - just now I'm in the mood to annoy NPC's an have a chaotic evil PC .

**laughs madly** - still, NO WORRIES !

by good or evil i mean not killing when you have the chance to resolve things peacefully, not killing strangers/peasants/annoying people on sight (: ) ), choosing the nice option when you are talking to people. although i have to admitt that sometimes i get pissed of with NPC's and go down the 'do you know who i am and what i could do to you with both arms tied behind my back blindfolded' way of talking to them, and i do occasionally kill annoying mercenary types like in amekthran (sp?).

haha

oh yeah, you certainly sound 'good'

*occasionally i kill annoying people... like once there was this guy named neeber... you wouldnt believe. anyway, to cut a long story short, i chopped his head off. pass the tea please?"

a real saint... ;)
:D

Hee hee hee :) ,

i nearly killed neeber, well once i did but my rep went down, so i started bugging him and talng to him, and then he eventually gave me magic bullets and i a load of exp.
I remmbered that from BG1 and applied the same tactic to to noober in trademet, well i thnk it was trademeet, anyway and i go the magic bullets that people had 'thrown' at him and some exp.

Although i may have got them mixed up, neeber may have been from SoA and noober may have been from BG1.

Trick to killing people you don't like without losing reputation points: Cast Protection from Evil on everyone you don't want to kill, then summon a Pit Fiend hehehe.

hey, this is the infamous "pit fiend" solution to a question I think craig or xyx posted some time ago...how to kill vaygar without killing him, and annoying lawful good party. just summon pit fiend accidentally, then waste it afterwards. alos take care of the umar hills chickens that way, and so oon.
pit fiends are fun!!! forgot to see if flayer mind control circlets will work, imagince having a pet fiend!!!

Lol,

imagine taking your pet pit-fiend round Athkatla, think of the looks the stuffy nobility would give you :)

or the look of ribald as you leave it tied up outside his shop as you 'casually' browse his items.

I always play good,
i just can't play evil, have tried it about 5times, always end up with 18rep just to keep the evil NPC's in my party.
Don;t know why!

Well, excuse me :p . I've only been playing this game for 2 1/2 weeks, so I'm figuring all this out for the first time.

well, one of the great things abotu BG2 is that you can play either and still get through the whole game successfully. i personally think it is more fun to play the evil route...soem situations are a lot tougher to role play through, but you just have to keep thinking of yoruselfand you'll be fine.

I've played both, but i'm more comfortable playing good, it's like in my character or something like that. I always felt that since the PC(me) has so much power he shouldn't give in to the darkness but to fight it and prove the majority of people wrong. I don't kill helpless people even as a bad guy, there's no fun killing people who can't fight back...

chaotic good is the easiest good aligned to play IMO since you do what you think is right, if one would play lawful good character you couldn't do almost any quests(killing slavers->illegal they haven't been judged yet and so on)

It's much easier to play evil in Fallout 1, 2, and Arcanum, where taking an "evil" position means something other than being a sociopath. ;) You can actually work to steal what rightfully belongs to others, and give it to bullying aggressors. I was delighted when in one of my games, my main character, an "evil magic using elf," was approached by the thieves' guild in a large town (supposedly, there was no thieves guild in the game--and you wouldn't find it, if you were good) to perform a few errands, get accepted, and be offered quests from time to time.

I prefer good, usally neutral good. Tried playing evil, but i just couldnt handle it :p

Also my 2 favorite classes; Ranger (Stalker) and Paladin (Cavalier) are limited to good.

I play always good (and sometimes super-good), I just have to...
Neutral or Chaotic Good are the best IMO.
Yet I admit that all these "evil" people in this
forum have told many interesting stories, so I've decided
to take Viconia in my team, and in the future will probably
try other "bad" NPCs.
But my char is a true paladin, romancing Viconia!!!
..hmm, I know, Keldorn would like to kill her instead, it's
just a matter of opinions... :D :D :D

Far as i can see BG2 doesn't really support playing in an evil way.
The quests are almost all based on you being the goody goody hero and offer little freedom - usually the few evil solutions you have are way inferior to the good solutions (fewer xp, worse loot).

BG2 has almost no freedom to play bad/good if you compare it with fallout 1&2 + Arcanum. Although bg2 is a fine game those 3 are even better ;)
