An Interesting PC

just wanted to know of some nice, interesting characters that people have made in shadowkeeper for bg2 (no - not you userunfriendly ;P). by this i mean like perhaps a drow assassin with high magic resistance and a low thaco? perhaps u had a nice background story to go with your character?

basically what im trying to achieve from this post is some inspiration on something fun to play (probably solo) thru soa/tob with. i do not consider myself a powergamer in that i would let my backstabbing thief wield carsomyr simply because he has UAI, but i dont mind having a character that could be considered 'overpowered' as long as he is fun. for example an arcane rogue who can cast invis etc but still has backstab.. perhaps reduced to x3 at its highest level.

i once heard that drizzt would have 25 dex and 5 prof slots in dual wield and 5 in simitars within the world of baldurs gate. is this true? i think if there was no such character as drizzt (you know what i mean, i dont mean in 'real' life :P ~), then it would be a lot of fun to think up the idea of a good aligned drow ranger who has superhuman dexterity and whose ability dualwielding simitars could not be matched throughout faerun. i think the 'over-powerdness' of bg characters tend to come more from items that stats and prof slots. even a character with very average stats can be an awesome fighting machine with the right items - we all know that.
i dont totally take the arument that "your a bhaalspawn.. you SHOULD be awesome!". what i do think is that making a character who is just that little bit different from the norm is kind of cool. think minsc in bg1 - he was cool because he was a ranger who could simply explode on the battlefield and slaughter all around him (well - that and a certain hampster ;P). adding things like that to your PC can be a lot of fun and make your character seem slightly more personal to you. that is, as long as you dont go overboard like userunfriendly and make a character who's spellcasting may make the magister and elminster weep, and who's fighting prowess leaves a certain drow in the dust ;P~~~

anyway, enough ranting. i doubt many people will have read this far - god knows i wouldnt have. if you have however, any shadowkeeper'ed characters you have previously used or can think of would be very welcome on this thread. also, any discussion concerning the positive and negative aspects of this are also welcome =)

personally i would love to go about making my own kits.. because im a little bored of the ones in the game and i cant find anything on custom sites that is half decent. yup, shame im simply not smart enough to make my own kits :D

anyways thanks for reading this incoherent gibberish. catch ya's.

I once played a "drow" fighter/mage.

He became very powerful - too powerful and I dropped him at about Suldanessellar.

About Drizzt: He's AD&D 2.ed stats are:

str: 13
dex: 21
con: 15
int: 17
wis: 17
cha: 14

HP: 96

82% MR and has those very powerful items. (their power is better portraited in PnP)
But you have to remember that he's "only" 16th level - so I don't think your 40th level fighter is overpowered just because he can beat drizzt with one arm tied behind his back.

Anyway. Some tips for shadowkepper: Be sure to give yourself most of the abilities you want when you start the game - I found it irritating, and my character lost his charme because of this, that I had to go to shadowkeeper in order to give him 2extra % in RM everytime he levelled up.
Either have someone make you a kit, so you don't have to go to sk all the time, or only edit you character in sk as you're about to start the game for the day.
Also, remember, that if your character is too godly, he quickly loses his charme and becomes mundane to play as there're noone to challenge him.
You gain levels quickly soloing, and so become very powerful compared to the game at that stage (ie. level 15-20 in chapter 2/3).
Therefore you need to remember that if you're a fightertype, don't go overboard with MR, as the IA isn't good enough to let mages cast lower resistance, and as you're able to squash all melee opponents with ease, only mages stand a chance in hurting you...

hmm, thats interesting syl. although iam not all that suprised that your character was overpowered. such high magic resistance as well as fighter/mage abilities ;)

is anyone aware if there are any sites on the net which explain the different attributes of different races in ad&d. i personally have never played PnP before and thusmy knowledge is limited to the BG series and a few bits and pieces i have read here and there.
i think creating a deurgar (those evil dwarfs, spelling?) warrior with a sufficient story would be a lot of fun. but there would have to be something interesting about his class that i can implement with SK that would make him different to play from a normal dwarf.

anyway... thanks for replies =)
