Import STILL Impossible!

Well, I gave up on this topic a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, oops, but my desire to see the fabled pantaloons quest to the finish has caused me to restart this topic.
Bluntly, I have been unable to export/import any of my BG characters to SOA, despite advice on this board from more than one source. I use a Dell Dimension 8100, if that makes a difference, and would appreciate any DETAILED advice for trying it again. All responses are welcome.

Could you perhaps tell us the exact procedure you followed to export from BG, and import into BG2?

And I return! (Dramatic, hey?)
My procedure for exporting is as follows. I'm not sure if the first step of exporting is going well, as I always thought simply saving the game was sufficient. After that:

1) Go on to My Computer

2) Enter BG1 directory under C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Baldur's Gate

3) Enter character directory

4) Click on character, hit CTRL + C

5) Enter SOA directory under C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Baldur's Gate II-SOA

6) Enter character directory, and hit CTRL + V(no special portraits).

7) Start new game, import character

8) Fail to locate desired PC, flip out, fume for several months, post topic again.

That's my procedure!

Its never been there, just some lame paladin I tried years back. No idea what else to do. How about a detailed walkthrough, literally every step and key stroke?

What you need to do is to go to your BG1 character directory, right click on the desired character file, and select copy. Next, you need to right click on your BG2 character directory, and this time select paste. This will put a copy of your character file into your BG2 character directory. After that, it's a matter of starting the game and importing the character file.

I think I'll give up. There is no way to transfer a saved game from BG1 to SOA, and without that, I can't try the pantaloons quest. A simple character file won't transfer them. Oh well, thanks everyone.

A character file does transfer them, what you need to do is try the trick that imports the inventory - I am not sure, but it is something to do with hitting the space bar when the new game is loading (with that exported character imported) ...someone else may be able to help out here... :)

*Cheese Alert*

To keep your imported character's items when starting a new single-player game: Hit the space bar just as the screen goes to black. Go to your inventory screen. Drop all your items to the floor. Return to the game screen and unpause. Once the cut scene is over, pick up your stuff.

Wait a second, that's cheesy? Next you'll say making all your stats 18 is cheesy too!

:D ;)

Seriously though, my rational has always been that it is not cheesy, it's just that Irenicus does a bad job of searching you :)
