why do I burst into flames?

Well since I installed ToB i've noticed that starting from somewhere in the Underdark my charater will burst into flames whenever I enter/exit a screen. I don't suffer any damage so I assume its a bug, but its quite annoying. When i completed SoA and went onto ToB this stopped, but just yesterday, it started to happen again! Has this happened to anyone else?

This bursting-into-flames thing happens to me also. It hasn't affected my game except for it being annoying. I went halfway through SoA without it happening, but after I installed ToB, it started, and it's continued now that I'm in ToB.

@ koz-ivan - i don't think its the fireshield animation. Its a fire animation localized around my PC's feet and there is an accompaning sound effect. I don't have any edited items.

@ Rapier - i think its a bug, since it doesn't do any damage but i will try remove curse.

@ Crassus - glad its not just me :)

I'm sorry to laugh on your account, but this post is one of the funniest things I've heard all day.

I wish there was something I could do to help, but I have no idea. If it's not your PC you could try killing him and resurrecting him. That solves an amazing amount of problems it seems.

I seem to have a similar bug on my protagonist. He gets fatigued way to often. It all happened back when he drank that weird liquor in the big silver mug. I'm not sure why (or what it was supposed to do) but it's screwed up my resting cycles the entire game. Anyone know anything about this?

Only seems to happen to PCs if they use the slayer form for the first time since Spellhold. From that point on, every time you enter and exit an area, the character has that flame bursting animation.

That is true...encountered the same after using the Slayer in TOB(which was just a one off), what you see exiting screens ist actually exactly the same graphic and sound you get when turning into the slayer and back to human.

Why the whole thing happens I don't know...maybe because you are getting closer to the end? Or whatever?

I have been dealing with a similar problem with one of my groups. The "exploding" bit looks like the Celestial Fury effect right? As far as I can tell, and from the feedback received from posts on this exact subject, its just a bug. Though I thought that the effect had once damaged a party member. I admit that I can not be certain of this. Must be the heat baking the few brain cells that I have left. Oh well.

This has really no affect on anything in the game and i'm wondering why its even a topic...it starts to happen if you become the slayer at any point whenever you exit a room or area...its just pretty effects that show you are the avater of bhaal or something.

New and improved robes of vecna

"from the Arcanium Catalogs"

This truely great item, though it has that god awful garish green look, has an unusual effect due to being owned by the archmage volo a few years back. His penchant for practical experiments had an unusual effect. While he was studying practical alchemy, he read how firedamp and human flatuence is caused by the same invisible gasses. Knowing how firedamp can ignite when mixed with oxygen, he modified the energy distribution effects of the robe to permit a practical experiment. He theorized that if he can transfer heat energy from his body received by the robe and concentrate it on a tiny spot near the tail of the cloak as an ignition point, when he broke wind the cloak, fortunately already fireproof as it was made from phoenix down feathers, he would get a reverse red dragon flame...a jet of flame coming from the antipodes of a red dragon's standard breath attack. His spectacular demonstration of this ability caused much talk and quite a bit of amusement in the bi-annual Witch's convention, where he was one of the brew judges and most of that year's entries used extra beans. Volo soon rid himself of that cloak, though he removed that spell. He chose to use a spell from the drow schools of magic, and its been theorized in arcane circles that exposing a drow dispelled item to the underdark may reactive a spell.

Aye, this also happens to Pugsley, my half orc barbarian. He frequently goes slayer, and this only started after installing ToB.

Personally, I'm eagerly awaiting a bug fix.

I've noticed this thing also with my Totemic Druid. First I thought it was some hidden effect from a weapon or so on. Then i guessed it had something to do with being a highlevel druid, since I wasn't quite sure what their new resistances were. But I checked the record page for the druid and found Resistance to magic damage =100. I Never tried it, and now I think that the effect has disappeared since I patched the game...
The interesting part was that the flames only activated when I left an area, and then existed for some time after. But I think it's just a bug

This has to be the best title for a thread EVER.
Its a question that isn't asked enough IMHO.

*Why* do I burst into flames?
or...
