I hear all the time that people do over 1000damage with sunray.
I'm happy when it dous 100.
How to get these huge amounts of damage?

i only get 1000gamage against undead otherwise it's much less, don't know if this is what you mean though...

I know, but when i use it with the linch where you get daystar, i also do about 75damage even if his protections are down.

did you use the daystars sunray ability or did you use the spell? might be a difference there? i've only used the daystar...

Both, never got over a 100 damage.
Tried everything, standing right next to them, first remove all spell protections.

You only get the super high damage if they fail their save. The lich must have made his save.

Undead get additional 1-6 damage *per level* of caster. They have to save or be destroyed (like as at hit by Azuredge or the Mace of Disruption). The question rather is which level Daystar uses.
Also it works only inside 20ft circle, so you should be near enough.

IIRC, some undead are imune to insta-kill spells, so for the programmers to implement their death with sunray when they fail their save, instead of killing them by "insta-death", they receive 1000+ HP of damage.

The toughest undead i know about are Kangaxx (sp?) the Lich and Elemental Lich - 126HP. It'd not necessary 1000HP damage for them. From other side there would be a mistake because plain strike against undead made by 20th level priest (20D6) would be no more than 120, plus normal damage 3-18 (3D6 as it's stated in description of Daystar), enough to kill any lich if you're lucky. I guess, though, there isn't 20D6, rather one roll of 1D6 multiplied by 20.

Stilgar, the Lich guarding the Daystar usually won't reap the full benefits of the Sunray for some reason. I found that Melf's Minute Meteors hit him through his defenses. Keep that on him, and he's gone. Any other Undead freak gets raped quite violently, like the Shade Lord.

Totally off the topic, but i'm playing through SOA again and the Shade Lord is a complete and total wuss. How in the heck could he muscle out Amaunator? (No need to answer, just had to say it.)---
