Just thought I'd share this with people. Discovered by accident....raise one of those mordekain swords and get someone to pickpocket it....now you have an amulet that protects you from : psionic blasts , charm , fear , domination etc etc.

I tried to pickpocket a mordenkainens sword after reading this post but it didn`t have any items ;(

Is it that there is a chance the sword has a greenstone amulet or does it usually always have one and I just have a duff game?? :(

I've summoned about 6 swords and all had the amulet. Summon the sword...dont let it attack anything and either pickpocket it or destroy with magic missiles.then pick the amulet up and identify it.

I believe that's a SoA only feature. On my Mac, I get the amulet from every sword I pickpocket. (SoA only installed). On my PC, I never find 'em. (SoA and ToB installed).

Can anybody confirm this? Anybody with ToB installed find an amulet on a sword?

And one thing that's always bugged me....why is it Mordenkanien's sword? We're in Faerun, not Oerth! ;)

It's not a feature, it's a bug. It was corrected in one of the later SoA patches, as well as in ToB, and in the big bugfix from Baldurdash.

And the amulet doesn't protect you always, it's a one time only special ability if I understood it right.
Even though I've stumbled on a lot of Greenstone Amulets (I even found some hidden in some niches in the Beholder caves IIRC), I never bothered to use them for that reason, and always sold them off.

You're right...it does have only one charge when you get it . But go to any shop and sell the amulet. They will probably give you one gold piece for it. Buy it back from them at a cost of about ?6000 gold pieces and it will be fully charged with about 50 in total.

This is true for any item which has limited charges.

Of course, you're right.
But I have to admit I never really used *any* items with only a certain number of charges on it, apart from the Rod of Resurrection...

I have the latest SoA patch and you can still pickpocket MS for the amulet.
What I found is that, although the amulet only has one charge, you only need to wear it to have the full effects!!!
It's true, I found that those (the pickpocketed ones) works that way (permanent effect, probably a bug): you can check on your picture and in your carachter description where you'll see the small red icon (the same you get when wielding Lilacor).

Buying back one charge equipment

Wow this was a great idea .. Thank god I did not just chuck up my one use items .. I was barely using some of them .. thing of saving for worse fights .. So that means
- The fire elememental summoning wand
- lightning wand (that only Jahaira can use)
- Staff of curing
- etc can all be charged at the store?

Oh yes :)

Everything with charges...just as long as you can afford it.

And as long as it isn't flagged as "stolen".

True. But there are fences dotted around that will happily recharge any 'aquired' items. Bit of a pain slogging it all the way to the sewers for instance :)

But then you can buy fenced items back from the fence and they cease to be stolen. Kind of defeats the object of stealing them in the first place I guess...but handy for getting a bunch of fully charged wands early in the game which you can 'legalize' later on when the cash starts to mount up.
