Mage stronghold

Finishing the mage stronghold and getting the staff of power. Has anyone done this and what is the trick. Do you have to use un-hacked characters. Everything I've tried just winds up with the apprentices blowing themselves up.

No matter what,they will die. Whether or not the staff gets made is left to chance, i think.

There is a procedure to get the Staff of Power. You can read the details at the
Mage Quests on the SoA Walkthrough.

And, of course, you won't get a permanent apprentice unless all three mages-in training survive to graduate. Not that a few mediocre potions every couple of days is much of a reward...

I think the XP from the graduation is more valuable than the staff. I'd take the apprentices and XP and go to the Twisted Rune to get the Staff of the Magi.
