creative new ways to fail (spoilers)...

So my saga to finish a no-reloads solo game (inspired by two and the recent success of Gebhard Blucher on the alt.games.baldurs-gate newsgroup) continues. The last two failures were particularily frustrating (read NOT MY FAULT!).

Character 1: 10th-level swashbuckler dualed to mage. Made it through SoA without excessive cheese (limited myself to 1 PI and 1 Simu per day :) and without death/reload. I continue on in Watcher's Keep (knew L3 would be tough)and get to the Cambion - I draw a card and get the silence thingy. I can't cast spells, and can't talk to an NPC cleric to get curse removed. I tried mem'ing vocalizing, and removing/rewearing AofPower - no dice. Dead char. I could pop into my plane, add a char and let them talk to cleric or cast remove curse, but it seems counter to the spirit. I think I'll just go off into the woods and become the silent hermit of Horth Forest...

Character 2: Halfling fighter-thief. The problem with a solo F/T (if no reloads) is dealing with spells and magic-users. I rely on cheesy simu-helm and abuse of Protection from Magic scroll. Feeling a little ashamed of the repeated use of this tactic, I remember that mustard jellies are 100% MR, and successfully use Cloak of Sewers to polish off Gaius (after splitting everyone up with backstab and run). I then decide to tackle wizard for Edwin, and to my surprise, I am sunfire'd for buttloads of damage, and then power-word stunned as I try to pop out of jelly form :) I end up being beaten to death by a stalker. I don't think the cloak's mustard jelly form has 100% MR, which is aggravating... should have tested it better, I guess. Sigh.

Just warning others - this way lies cheesy bugs...

Nice work anyway bbbrisco.

The 100% MR is against things cast AT you. Sunfire is definitely not that and the Mustard Jelly does not have 100% fire resistance.

Let us know how you go - Curdis !

do you have to solo? I think a party of 3 should be good unless you failed a save against Demogorgan!
