Where is Ravenloft? Is it near Faerun or is it on another planet altogether?

It's a demiplane, the one of dread. Demiplanes usually border the etheral plane I think. They can be created artificial, but usually they're somewhat smaller than Ravenloft. Ravenloft is also special in other ways, eg you can't just leave it.
