Ok, monks are superior. All you people that say that other classes can get speed, magic res, immunity, etc. well...

1) I is harder and takes longer to get those items

2) You can't have it all at once. Different weapons are mentioned that all together meet all the monks great characteristics. Well the monk has all of them at the same time. And he can use items for other uses rather than using them to meet his own capabilities.

I have played a variety of different classes and I have to concur, so far I have had the most fun with my monk :D

Although I also want to try a kensai and see how they compare.

Fighter/mage = dead monk.

Try searching on the subject. Monks are fun to play, but they are not an uberclass.

No, but a simple Mirror Image does.

FT = dead monk too.

But there is no real point in discussing which class is superior ... if BG2 was a hack'n'slash player against player game these threads would make limited sense, but it isn't.

What is it with you Monk lovers? Fighters are good, too, but you don't see anyone starting up threads for that. ;)

mage with robe of vecna, amulet of power, staff of magi and a few time stops...

this combo could only be beaten by an archer if he is fast enough...

the archer on the other hand could easily be beaten by a kensai if the kensai runs fast enough... ;)

the kensai will be killed by an monk...

then a paladin with low saves, nice weapon(s) and improved haste will kill the monk... (maybe :D )

... now you can jump back to the first line :D

But if the mage has a trigger with mislead, impr haste and tensor's, he'd kick anyone's @$$ (with itens casts instantaneously)

even without it, with the re-equipping exploit of the staff of the magi, or with teh paralisis without save of the staff of power, he'd kill anyone

(optional: Spell imunity: divination to avaid true sight)

He doesn't even need (chain) contingencies, stoneskin, mirror images, blurs, spirit armours, timestop, skellies, planetars, spiders, monsters, etc, chained abi's, sequenced skull traps, protection from magical weapons (with hell's bonuses = imune to all weapons), power word blind, sunfire for surpassing MR, ETC

As i always said, a mage (or sorceror, or any mage/something combination (preferably kensai) can beat any class in 90% of the battles.

even if the only spell cast is mislead (or by exploiting staff of the magi) (and maybe SpellIm), Almost nothing can find him under any circunstancies.

And if Anyone doesn't believe this, do some testings and be amused ;)

Definately have to disagree with you. I think really kensai beats out Monk when it comes to fighting. When you have a Kensai with either the Celestrial Fury or the Equalizer, Kensai goes supreme as the best Melee fighter. If somehow there could be a way to pit one class against another in a fight, the best classes in my opinion would either be a Sorcerer or a F/M. If you use spell triggers and contingencies well with the Sorcerer, then you really are an amazing thing.

It all depends on equipment (resistances), spell choice (a myriad of combinations possible) and last but not least luck.

A single hold person, confusion, dire charm and of course backstab can end it all. Besides many other attack forms of course. Every class could score with a deadly attck.
