What have I done!? :(

As I said before, my game started to crasch for me for some reason and today I tried to reinstall it, to see if that helped... I didn't find an "uninstall" file in the BG2 folder, so I used the one from the Start menu. I got the question if I wanted to uninstall the game and I clicked on "yes" and then I got a messege that all was OK. then I deleted the BG2 folder from my harddrive and now I can't install the game again!!!!

I've deleted everything from the computer that involves BG2, but nothing happends. The start menu that appears when I insert the disc don't have an install button, it just says "Play".

I'm in panic now, what can I do to install my game again?

Please help me! :( :( :(

Yes, I click on the "baldur.exe" file and get the start menu. Then I click Play and the I get a pop up screen that tells me that I should configure the game, since it's the first time I play it. Then I click "OK"... but nothing happends. The pop up is closed but nothing more. :(

Try this: Run (start menu) > regedit > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\BioWare Corp... remove Baldur's gate 2.

Hope that helps.

Well, I've already deleted the BioWare file in "regedit" and nothing happend. And the BGmain.exe file isn't working either... It just says:
"An Assertion failed in Chitin.cpp at line number 1621. programmer says: Error initializing key table, bad key file."

Man, I just don't know what to do.... :(
How can I be so stupid to delete this ûber game? I'll never forgive myself...

Ok, I've d/l regcleaner and installed it and I did a search there and found and "old" file namned "Baldur's Gate(TM) II - Shadows Of Amn(TM)".

But how do I do to remove that file only? I've marked it, clicked on Tools - Registry Cleanup - Do them all.
but it looks like its removing all files in the list...

I don't know how to do w/ computers, so it's kind of hard for me to understand what it does...

If you only want to reinstall the game, you don't have to delete anything. To install, this is all you need to do.

1) Put CD 1 in the CD drive.
2) Double-click My Computer
3) Right-click your CD drive and choose the Explore option
4) Find the file named Setup.exe (or Setup if your file suffixes are turned off) on your CD then double click it.

This will force the install to run. When you uninstall the program, you'll still need to find and delete the hidden InstallShield file but you don't need to worry about it if you are just reinstalling the game.

Just go into regedit the normal way (run > regedit) and search for "Baldur's Gate"

I've tried the "Setup.exe" and the Installshield Wizard starts up, but then I get the msg

"Do you want to completley remove the selected application and all of its components?"

After that, nothing happends...

I have NO idea what to do now... :( :( :(

I dont know what you did but I think you removing the bg folder could have had something to do with it. I'm not an expert on computers but perhaps by removing the folder manually you also removed something else essential to the running of this ( or any game). my suggestion is to try installing a different game which has worked before and seeing if that works.then trying bg.or maybe go to find/search function ( start then find ) and look for all bg folders there. or any programs with 'bal' in .and remove.maybe try installing on another drive if you have one.or format the whole computer ( not rec !)

Yes, I know... It was stupid of me to delet the BG2 folder, but I thought it was OK since I'd used the Uninstall in the Start menu. Now I know it wasn't... :(

I've searched for all types of baldur(...) files, but I can't find any.
I tried the run-regedit option and deleted the Baldurs gate file there and I've used the Regcleaner to remove an old file... but nothing helps.

Hmmm, install again with the same path. Then uninstall to take care of the registry problem. Then install again. Then try again.

Well, I've tried everything you've said, but it still doesn't work... I don't see any other option but to reformat the whole computer.
I guess it will take sometime before I can play it igain.

THANK ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!!

YOU'RE THE BEST!!!!

I really hope you know what you're doing when reformatting your computer. If you have never done it before let me tell you that it is a real big pain .... make sure you have boot disc made before hand.

I've had a similar problem. Bg2 uninstall-reinstall seems to be really
bugged.
It was not much of a problem, since I was about to format everything
nontheless.
You know, windows rots like fruits with time, so you have to
clean it up now and then.
Just be organized! The ideal is a second HD: all the immediate-need programs and drivers are there to be installed quickly, and you can place your backups there: docs, address book, mail archives, bookmarks, and, most of all, SAVEGAMES!!!!
I think I have achieved the maximum of efficiency in this field, so ask me if you want!
