AI bug with lich at city gate ?!

Hello,
I recently started playing BG2 SoA first time.
Story: Ive tried to find a good, easy method to kill the lich(GRVLCH01) at city gate district and i stumbled on something, which i think is an AI script bug. I cast improved invisibility on a character with bow and enter his room and shoot him. He doesnt use his True Sight and is kind of bugged. He does: Put his prots up and cast Timestop once and then nothing. He doesnt cast any spells while in Timestop. So i basically shoot him dead.
I can reproduce this as often as i want.
I really wonder that nobody has found this out and it isnt fixed yet, since the game is out quite a while. I made a test and entered room visible and went invisible/improved invisible and he reacted correct and casted Truesight then.
I have no clue about scripting. WHat do you guys think, is that an AI script bug ?

Well, the lich at the city gates is not too bright, I agree... when I attacked him, he gated in a pit fiend. I had my party retreat from his tomb and rest in the Crooked Crane... it is an inn, after all

When I went back to his tomb, the pit fiend disappeared, and the lich put up hardly any resistance ! I think Korgan clubbed him to death !

Well thats ok, cause it happens with his meteor swarm that it hits the pit fiend and thats why the pit fiend attacks him. Sure you can leave, retreat and wait for his prots to go down, but thats a slow way to kill him.

@Paton :
The pit fiend was NOT killed by the lich. When I re-entered the room after having rested, I saw the demon vanish (the usual way summoned critters disappear when their time has come) where I had left it.
I agree though, that my way of killing the lich was less than fair, but my party was still quite inexperienced and I found out by accident. Anyway, the other liches were vanquished in honorable combat, no cheating there, I promise !

@Nagroth
I didnt mean you cheat.

Its also an ok way to do it, just slow. Cheating for me would be for example to kill firekraag with a wand of cloudkill from afar.
Well my way with improved invisibility is also kind of cheating if its really a bug.
The way with Polymorph self, is an ok way. The lich cant hurt the mustard jelly except with the Djinni he summons. So he basically waste alles his spells on the mustard jelly and after that you waste him easy. This works als fine with Torgal the boss troll at the keep.

No problem, I just felt that my way was cheap... and not the way it was meant to be

this lich is very vulnerable to khelbens warding whip, hit with spell using mislead scroll or spell, and you will break his script ang get 3 free rounds....khelbens causes many, but not all spell casters ai's to break and go into restore spell protections mode. no, does not work on dragons, but most of the quest liches, not demi liche, will be vulnerable to ai script break...

This happened to me too. I sent Jan in to grab the Daystar while he was improve invis'ed. The lich casted time stop and nothing happened. I left and gave my Cav. the daystar, walked in and Sunrayed him after I casted secret word.

Same way here, but I just waited untill he started casting again after timestop and then every time interrupted spellcasting. Kinda slow, but funny

Hehe, ive found another way which kills him even quicker. My described way with improved invisibility took about 7-8 turns.
fastest method(2-3 turns):
- Take a priest and cast sanctuary on him and let him enter the room
- Priest moves to lich and casts false dawn
- Lich gets confused
- enter with rest of party(hasted) and butcher him quickly.
The funny thing about this method is:
- the priest doesnt leave his sanctuary after casting false dawn.
- the lich stay blue the whole fight and doesnt cast a single spell

Aye, khelbens warding whip will work, but my goal was to do it earlier in game and khelbens warding whip is level 7 which requires a level 14 mage.
