Can someone explain me why Breach doesnt work on the citygate lich ? I got a message saying:" ineffective".
I did it as first spell and the lich had only improved mantle, mirror image, protection from fire, fireshield and globe of invulnerability.

I think its because liches are immune to all spells below level 6 (except dispell and remove magic?) and this is an innate ability which cannot be bypassed.

Whacking a lich with the staff of the magi usually gets rid of several spell protections. An inquisitor's dispell magic is very effective to.

Breach can't get past the Globe. You need a pierce magic or maybe secret word to break through. Maybe spellthrust but I doubt it.
Breach only kills spells like stoneskin.

liches are immune to spells below level 6, with ccertain exceptions. dispell and remove magic, and melf minute meteors. I am not sure if this applys to priest spells, however. ZI think I've seen holy smite get thru

Pierce magic is a fine spell to break magic defenses.
