Naljier Skal and Dradeel NPC's

these guys are awesome. i went back to an old savegame with my solo halfling barb just before spellhold and once in decided to pick up Naljier Skal (the bard) and Dradeel (the mage) after irenicus told me of their power. they have been fantastic with dradeel having an obscene amount of hit points. i even used shadowkeeper to give them some snazzy portraits that i got from havaks site.
but here is my problem:
i cant keep them! =( having to fight irenicus at the end screws me over. to get ot of spellhold u have to use the inmates and you lose control of Naljier Skal and Dradeel. is there anything i can do about this? i guess i could work out their console command but i would lose all their xp and spells etc.
then on the other hand i guess i could fix all of that in SK (sounds boring tho :-/ )
hmm. seems i have answered my own question
i guess i was just hoping for a nice easy way to keep them from the fight.
later =D
p.s. isnt dradeel supossed to be elven? im sure thats what Irenicus said? when i added him to my party tho his information had him down as a human conjurer? oh well!

dradeel in particular is insanely powerful. starts with 4 level 8 spell slots

You could just CLUA them in and Ctrl+q them into your party after finishing spellhold.

C'mon, they're the prisoners in Spellbound just as I told you. Real NPCs. You can talk to them during Irenicus' guided tour and they will help you in the fight against Irenicus.

What mod do you have installed? Irenicus never sais anything about the other inmates (their powers etc.) and doesn't give you a "guided tour" of the place, not in my version of the game anyways.

Normally, if you use the wardstone you got from the Cowled Wizard in Brynnlaw, Irenicus will pose himself as the warden of Spellhold and take you on a tour, only to reveal his real identity at the end of the tour. I guess this will be different if you convince the Pirate Lord that you're insane (haven't tried it, though).

I had no idea this played out differently depending on the way you choose to enter. I've always used to wardstone, though.
@Franke
No mod installed, if you didn't get this already from Eerhardt's post.

I see, I always let Minsc do his thing with the Pirate Lord since the first time I used the wardstone and entered the Asylum nothing happened at all, I was inside the Asylum but the two doors in the "entrance hall" were locked and there was nothing I could do, I guess I should have just stood there a couple of minutes until Irenicus appeared and gave me the tour?
Anyways, do they (Naljier Skal and Dradeel) actually join your party (i.e. you can look at their inventory, mage book etc.) or do they just stand at your side when facing Irenicus (that's what they've done every single time with me) ? If they join your party like the other NPCs I've really missed something in this game, and I've beaten it a dozen times, please tell me it isn't so.

It isn't so!
As I've already said, you have to CLUA + Q them in to get them. Then of course they are like any other NPC, i e you can give them orders, browse their inventory and so on. However, they have no portrait, no dialogues and none of all that other stuff we've come to expect from our party members.
