I just started a solo game with a barbarian And just came to his level up. I thought the barbarian was based on a d12 and not a d10. I was looking in the manual and the barbarian is in the same class as a fighter. Is this so??? Then why do they say that a barbarian gets more hit points. Do they just get more when you start out. One more thing is there a option to max out your hitpoints when leveling up like there is in icewind dale. I am tired of re-loading to get max hitpoints.

If you lower the difficulty to easy before rolling HP you'll get the maximum HP. Turn it back to the difficulty you play afterwards.

Good tip.
Thanks for the tip. I will try this next time when he levels up. Should not be long.

The manual says d10, but the Kit Information button on the character screen says d12. Go with d12.

Ok
Sounds good I think I will go with d12. Sounds better.

There are a couple of discrepancis between the book and the game. When in doubt, check the game. If that doesnt work, ask here.
Barbarians ROCK!

I have to agree. I just started playing A barbarian And lets just say all those goblins were turned into mince meat. He also seems to have alot of critical hits. I think this is going to get very intresting. I am sure he will be a very good fighting machine at higher levels.

When you have stars in two handed weapon and you will get a critical hit on a 19 or 20 roll, ie instead of a 5% chance, now you get 10%. I am not sure how many stars in it o do that...

I just started a Barbarian for solo a well... I'm doing it on insane difficulty and I'm about to set sail for Brynnlaw (after completing most Chapter 2 quests). I have TOB and Baldurdash patches, as well as harder monster scipts installed. Some interesting things:
1) Apparently Barbarian rage DOES protect against Maze, but not imprisoment, making the Barbarian significantly better than the Bezerker except in certain limited circumstances.
2) The hammer in Nalia's keep that kills giants is considered a +4 weapon. Take that and above + scroll of undead protection = early Ring of Gaxx.
3) Damage reduction is your friend. I wield Defender of Easthaven in my off hand. At 19th level when I use Hardiness I hav 80% damage resistance to every physical attack. I'm not sure if Barbs keep gaining damage resistance every four levels, but if they do, my Barb will be nigh invulneable.
4) I used to be a big fan of mace of disruption, but this guy uses longswords (I plan to use Blackrazor) and I find Daystar is actually more effective against many types of undead, especially skeletal warriors and mummies.
5) Gaxx + cloak of non-detection = free atacks on pesky mages.
6) FOA is probably your best "all-around" weapon, I would NOT reccomend using it against trolls ecept to deliver the killing blow. For some reason the slow feature makes the troll not fall for an indefinite period of time.
7) Rod of ressurrections are the best healing item in the game, buy and resell to recharge.
