Vithal

Alright I'm back in the underdark and I've never been able to do the Vithal quest. I know your suppose to cast the freedom spell and free him from imprisonment. However, that is a 9th level spell, and the only solution I can come up with is to use CLUA and up my mage's XP. Does anyone have some other suggestions.

There are some underground dwarves who will sell a copy of the Freedom spell.

The Druegar that exalted moderator fable mentioned are at the bottom (south) part of the Underdark screen. After you buy the freedom scroll from them, go to the area on the srceen that is between the 3 elemental portals and use the scroll. The exact location doesn't matter, just the area. Just thought I'd let you know because trying to find where to use the scroll really annoyed me when I was doing that quest.

AFAIK as long as you cast the spell in the general "outside area" of underdark the spell works...

SPOILERISH

kill the guy, you get decent loot and exp, he's tough, so before he comes back from the last portal summon pets and buff up, hit him with everyting you got IIRC he can cast imprisonment, only one though

The question remains do you have to do CLUA to get the experience for my mage. I know where to buy the scroll cause i've been thru the underdark at least a dozen times. Freedom spell is 9th level. SoA only allows mages to go to 17th level.

you dont have to memorize to cast a spell... just cast it right from the freedom scroll (as in put the scroll in quick item slot and click on it from the game screen)... when you cast the spell, the main screen will refer automatically to Vithal's location

@Zarajon posted the following as a separate topic of the same name in this thread. Since that's spamming, I've added it, here:

"Decided to try again regarding Vithal, Maybe its a bug in my game but the duergar merchant never has the freedom scroll thats needed to free Vithal. Instead he has the freedom spell and it doesn't work. Has anyone else had this problem."

Sorry about that Fable, Didn't realize what I had done was spamming. I'm new to all this however, I didn't get any answer that helped me.

As Commoner so eloquently stated, you can cast a spell just by reading the scroll. Put it in your Quick Spell Slot, and voila. Just aim and cast. :)

No, you don't have to use CLUA. Just do as above and no problems. :D

You don't "aim" with the Freedom spell ;) - after equipping it in your quick-item slot, just click and wait. No matter where you're located in the Underdark, the screen should jump to where Vithal appears the first time you cast it.

@Locke Da'averan

Pushing Vithal for more rewards, I remember I got in addition to the rod 2 scrolls: horrid wilting & simulacrum IIRC.
Does he have more stuff on him, or you suggest to kill him for the XP only?

Of course, you don't have to kill Vithal for the extra loot. You can also pickpocket the scrolls off of him, before he enters the last plane portal.

On my first time through the game I pushed him for the extra loot and we ended up fighting, killing him easily.
I´m on my second run, and just yesterday tried to repeat my actions, but when we started the fight his first action was a Time Stop, in which he gated a Pit Fiend and Dimension Door´ed away! I tried again three more times but he did it again, and I could not interrupt his Time Stop. On my first run I hadn´t ToB installed, which now I have. Weird, uhm?

@Leonardo
That's exactly what happened to me, and I don't have TOB installed. After three or four failures I figured he's not meant to be killed (so it's weird you DID manage to kill him w/o special tricks...)
Another strange NPC is Brennan Raisling from the merchant group in Waukeen Disctrict, he also script-disappear after he's wounded IIRC. Does he show up again or does he have some good stuff the developers don't want you to get too easily?
Also, I didn't try it, but what if you attack the guy who explodes in Trademeet? Does he have anything cool on him?

@Delita thanks

Brennan goes away if he´s wounded. You have to kill him quickly, preferably backstabbing him, so he die in one shot. He has a Ring of Invisibilty, great for my F/T!
When I killed Vithal on my first run I think I managed to deal enough damage to kill him before he completed the Time Stop. Carsomyr must something to do with it, I miss it!
But on this run I managed to whack Saemon before he run away during the Gythanki attack. Both my PC and Jaheira got a critical with the Heartseeker and the Sling of Seeking, and Korgan hit him with the Dwarven Thrower...

I managed to kill saemon too, my plain fig and keldorn ran straight to him, and aerie&imoen blasted him with magic missiles, he went down, IIRC you decent xp from him. the game might get stuck if you kill saemon too soon
