After finally finishing TOB and having romanced Jaheira I was very disappointed with the Romance ending for her. Vic's or even Aerie's was a lot more interesting after all you went through to get the Jaheira Romance. Did anyone else thing the Romance ending(s) could have been better for Jaheira or the others?

I sort of liked Jaheira's ending. Essentially she got to be happy for the first time in her life. Considering that this is the end of the Child of Bhaal series, I see nothing wrong with a 'and they lived happily ever after ending'. It has worked for fantasy for thousands of years after all.

It is what's called the "Story Book ending". The romance with Jaheira is the typical story book romance. Meet married woman, married woman becomes widow. Widow shows anger to everyone. Widow eventually forgets Whats-his-face. Widow gets horny. Widow screws first man who has two legs, two arms and a pulse. Widow is no longer a widow.

Actually that is very believable (minus some of the sarcasm). Take a look at people who are widowed (or become widowers) when still at the height of adulthood. You will find that an overwhelming majority of them remarry within just a few years. Not all do, true, but most do.

I don't see Jaheira being the exception here (and the Pro is the logical choice for a second husband for her). I also don't see anything particularly wrong with it either. She is a *widow* and it is hard for a person who has been married to adjust to being single again after a death (I know, my father went through it after my mother died....both were in their forties at the time), so IMO it is a very reasonable (if tricky) romance....and very "realistic" (if I may use that word in the context of the game).

Viccy gets the short straw. A level 40 Cleric is poisoned, dies and nobody comes to Resurrect her. Bioware sooo not got into details about how that was supposed to ever be possible.

Given all the rods of ressurction in the game wouldn't you the protagonist use it to save your love?

also my level 40 sorc would have d-gated to the nearest temple of lathander, bashed in the door with a dragon breath, and dragged the highest level cleric with me back to her .

Would have paid for new door later, but who cares?

Could be this was a magical drow poison with no possible ressurection. In which case the blurb would have included protagonist storming down to the underdark in an expedition that drow mothers would use to frighten drow children with for the next 500 years...

Even if Res or similar spells wouldn't work, you can always use a carefully worded Wish, ought to do almost anything in PnP...

I can't understand why they had to let her die in the first place.

Viconia's ending fits in with what BioWare does with the others. You have Aerie's ending - the perfect fairy tale happy ever after ending; then you have Jaheira's - not so happy but still not sad either, both happy with their share and carrying their duty and never forgetting each other; and finally you have Viconia's ending - the sad ending where she dies and you live always remembering your love for her.

Of course, it's not as if you were never warned. Vicky gives plenty of foreshadowings during the romance. I'm not really annoyed by the fact that she dies and cannot be resurrected (she had it coming), but by the lack of explanation surrounding the matter.

There was a big thread about this over at BIS where Dave Gaider made a few comments as well. There was a lot of talk about how Resurrection and Wish would always work, but the bottom line was that Lolth wanted Vicky dead and somehow made sure she stayed that way. The "somehow" part was never explained, however.

I agree with Xyx: dear Viccy's *permanent* demise was handled in quite a lame way. Assuming that by the end of TOB the main char has reached maximum level, which packs a tremendous punch in terms of sheer power, and MORE IMPORTANTLY has made a lot of friends in high places (no bhaalchild-pun intended ), making her lover die by poison is not forcing the plot. It's a blasted PARADOX, even considering the fact that Viconia's a cleric of no small power. Someone at the development team must have a grudge against her, I swear

Imagine the main char telling the story to old Elminster, or to Drizzt for that matter. Now, THAT would raise a crusade, or not?

Who needs the puny powers of Elminister or Drizzt when you are a god?

And what if I don't want to be a god and dissipate the power of Bhaal?
