Yea, discovered that on my way to take a Wyvern head to the temple of Lathander and dropped by to sell a load of scalps. The wyvern cave is actually on the 4th Cloakwood map.

I posted this in another thread as well (concerning xp), but I thought it would fit in here too: you can also get a Cleric in your party who can cast Animate Dead (skeletons are immune to charm) and rest in the sirine area. Each time the sirines show up (usually 3 at a time), you get 2,000 xp per Sirine, a couple of pearls and arrows of biting. And then, of course, you can also sell Winter Wolf pelts in Nashkel for 500 gp each (can't think of an area where the Winter Wolves spawn regularly, though).

I'll keep that in mind for my next solo game. It's really annoying to watch your PC get dire-charmed and stand around like an idiot for a
long time.

Like I said before in another thread: it's a good thing they altered the duration of the dire charm spell in BGII. And back on topic: you can also sell Ankheg shells to a dwarf in Baldur's Gate (he'll pay for the lot, so make sure you have only one at a time in your inventory when selling them). It's a bit tricky to get to his home, but I believe when you leave the Flaming Fist area and head for the Hall of Wonders Area in Baldur's Gate, you enter the Hall of Wonders Area south of the wall where you find the dwarf's home.

That one is new to me,
what is his name?

I looked up the dwarf's name in the BG Walkthrough on the GameBanshee site: his name is Fenten. The amount of gold you get was also listed there: it's 250 gp per Ankheg Shell.

That's nice, to bad you can't enter BG early.
I used to level up killing ankegs, and then 250 was a lot of gold.
As soona s i'm in BG i have all the gold i need

Sounds familiar... I just need the cash to buy some stuff off Taerom Thunderhammer and Thalantyr. Having high charisma really helps out here.

You can also sell your Ankheg shells Taerom Thunderhammer, 500 gp. each. Just don't have more than one in your inventory at a time.

Bloodmist,
can you still have Taerom make an Ankheg Armour for you then? Can you sell them only once for 500 gp each or each time you return with Ankheg Shells? Suppose you have Taerom make the armour for you, will he still buy the Ankheg Shells?

SPOILER for BGII in link
@UncleScratchy: thanks, I thought as much.
@all: perhaps Buck can put some of this on the GameBanshee site for the Baldur's Gate forum, like he did for the Baldur's Gate II forum under
lotsofgold.
WARNING: link for reference value only. Do not click if you haven't played BGII already

But you can sell a lot of shells first and then make a armor afterwards.

Winter Wolves (and Kobolds) spawn regularly in the over-land Nashkel Mines map. With a full party you can lure out 2-3 at a time with the 'you have been awakened from your rest' trick.
Also, in BG City, if you charm the noblewoman on the second floor of the Three Old Kegs inn, she'll give you 500 gp each time you talk to her. Dan Simpson added this to his BG FAQ, but as I found it out on my own before he did so, I don't feel guilty passing this on. ;-)

By the time you can regularly kill Ankhegs there's no money issues anyway... usually, unless you're really a big spender
