I just need to know, i dont understand "reactivate".
It is when i dual a kensai at L.9 to a mage. Some says i can "reactivate" it to the kensai somehow..if thats possible....could someone please explain that..
Do i need to reach the x cap for the mage, before i can change back?

when one dual classes, it means that they stop advancing in their current class (kensai whatever) and select a new class to play. "Reactivation" is when the second class bypasses the first class by a level (so if you dual your kensai at 13, you will regain his abilities as a kensai but also be a mage at 14). Keep in mind though, when you dual class, only your second class gains experience.

If you have ToB installed, dual at lvl 13 or 15 and you should be fine

When you reach level 10 mage you will be able to use kensai abilities (and be subjected to kensai restrictions as well).
You will keep advancing only on the mage class, the kensai will stay at 9 forever.

When you dual-class in BG2, your first class becomes inactive, until you reach one level higher in your second class. At this point, your first class reactivates.

Example: You're a 9th level kensai, who dual-classes to a mage. Your kensai class becomes inactive, causing you to temporarily lose the kensai abilities. When you reach level 10 as a mage, your kensai class now reactivates, and you regain the abilities of that class.

Yes

You get your old abilities back, including weapons proficiencies and THAC0, etc. You will still be unable to wear shields, body armour, bracers or gauntlets, but can wear ioun stones (kensai side) - and you can use dart missile attacks. The reason to dual-class Kensai to mage is that neither wears armour, but a Kensai can actually hit things, do some decent damage and use some non-crummy weapons.

In general, mages who are dualed from fighter (incl. Kensai) or thief will have significantly better melee skills and typically better hitpoints. Also, you have 325,000 "Spare" EXP points if you want to be a mage in SoA (between the top level, at 2,625,000 and the EXP cap of 2.95 million) - so you can become a level 9 fighter or 11 rogue, then dual-class to mage without restricting your leveling as a mage.

The Kensai is a limited armour, high damage output, specialty melee class, sort of a demi-monk. If you dual-class your level 12 Kensai NOW, you will be limited to about level 15 on the mage side - assuming you meet the other requirements nad can dual-class him/her. Frankly, unless you started the character with the intent of Dual-classing (as I did Deodand, my 8 Kensai dualed to mage), probably carry on with Kensai, unless for some reason you don't like the class. I thought it was pretty cool myself.

Until you regain your kensai class, you won't be able to use any non-mage weapons, and you'll have an abyssal THACO. Once your your kensai class reactivates, you'll be able to use long swords again, and your THACO becomes the average of the two classes.

A kensai's major weakness is that he can't wear any armor, including bracers - though if dualed to mage he can wear mage robes.
