...about a possibility of a sequel to Baldur´s Gate are pretty exciting.
Sam will kill them if they try anything, however. (read SYM for explanations)

Maybe I read it differently, but I saw nothing about a sequel to BG in that PR note. Just a general, bland statement about continuing to produce RPGs in the future. What did I miss?

I was under the impression that the BG series was done, at least as far as the child of Bhaal saga went. However, no ne has said there would be no more Forgotten Realms based games in the future.

The BG series is done as Interplay/Black Isle have lost the right to D&D - it was sold to Hasbro Interactive. Anyway, Interplay/Bioware/Black Isle is breaking up - rumour has it Interplay is in financial difficulty

If i'm not mistaked Wizards of Coast own the rights for D&D and Forgetten realms which is a subsidiary of Hasbro Inc and interplay had bought the rights to develop such games. Interplay lost the rights a while back ago from Infogrames, but the news now state that Interplay will be able to develop more games in the series of BG and IWD after having a deal with Infogrames. There is nothing sure yet though.

No, didn't miss it. This is PR-speak, which is next to lawyer-speak in terms of appearing to say one thing and definitely meaning another. Check it out again: it doesn't say "sequels to BG," but "sequels to the franchise," which is something else, again. It looks to me like the companies have made a deal similar to the one that formerly existed, for the use of copyrighted materials--that, and nothing more.
