Started a new game with a sorceress and I would like to learn more about familiars like if they level up or get better or how to kill off your familiar without a hit to CON.

The only time they "level up" is when you enter TOB, if you have it. They get more HPs, more resistances (I think), maybe improved thieving skills.

I don't know if you can kill them off w/o losing HPs, but there is a trick to dump them from your inventory w/o any penalties (except you can't use them again!). If someone tries to give you an item when your inventory is full, you drop things from the appropriate number of inventory spaces. If your familiar's in the first space, you can leave the poor fella lying on the ground.

er - how do u put them into ur inventory? never had one, just so they wont end like pooky...

use the "speak" action to talk to it and tell it to go into yer pack
