Since you are the owner of a legitimate copy of Baldur's Gate 2 (as opposed to a hacked warez copy), you can go out on the internet and get one of those "no-CD" patches that eliminates the CD-check when BG2 boots.

Who cares? With major game developers going bellyup on a monthly basis, or being bought out by large international firms--hell, with Interplay itself, around since the 1980s, finally losing so much revenue that it's been sold--I'd think it would be obvious: we all should care. A huge sum of money is lost on warez, pirated products. The Asian market for pirated software alone is said to cost in excess of several billion dollars a year for US companies.
If you like the handcrafted furniture done by a local woodworker, it stands to reason you won't accept stolen items from somebody who breaks into his store at night and steals his goods. Otherwise, you can kiss future products goodbye.
