SYM Diplomacy – The Quest for World Domination...

SYM Diplomacy – The Quest for World Domination…
by people who can barely tie their shoes.

Welcome to the first SYM diplomacy game. This is a low-spam thread. What belongs here:

- News and maps from me pertaining to the game.
- Questions and concerns from the players.
- Press. This is generally ‘in character’ communication that can be shared with all players (and the rest of SYM.)
- Taunting, comments, propaganda, etc. from both players and SYMers. If you can’t smile and take some prodding as your armies are being viciously sodomized and your empire is being overrun, better seek counseling now. :)
- Flirting ;)

What does not belong:

-Off topic discussions.
-Whining.

Just to be clear, I’d love to see commentary from all of SYM on the game, even if you don’t understand the rules or the concept; but if someone starts a counting thread or wants to discuss the geo-political climate of pre-war Europe, they should go elsewhere. ;)

Players may negotiate via PM or email (but not IM or phone). I’d suggest email, as the new PM inbox seems to fill up rather quickly. I will request that orders be sent to me either in unambiguous longhand (Fleet in North Sea moves to English Channel) or the in the shorthand convention given in the manual (F Nth – Eng). While players get accustomed to the game, I’ll make some reasonable attempts to reconcile confusing orders, but reserve the right to label a move ‘invalid’ and simply adjudicate those orders that constitute valid moves. Please send orders to me via email. I don’t trust PMs. I’ll turn on my address in my profile for you.

We’ll attempt to run the game without resorting to NMRs (no moves received.) If a player is chronically late, we will either have to use NMRs, or a dissatisfied populace will overthrow the offender and a new leader/player will be put in place.

Franz Ferdinand is Dead! Chaos ensues, and the cudgels of world power fall to:

Tsar Korn of Russia
King Dottie England
President CM of France
Archduke Aegis of Austria
Kaiser Nippy of Germany
King Frogus of Italy
Sultan Kameleon of Turkey

Deadline for spring 1901 order is Fri 4/12. Get negotiating. Starting positions can be seen here: http://www.diplomacy-archive.com/regularmaps/std3.gif

Well looks I'm Germany, I've got to say before we begin that I am hopefully going to enjoy this and I wish the rest of you best of luck.

*Nippy shakes hands with all participants.*

Now onto the scheming. :D :D

Waverly, how are we going to organise movement and order times?

Let's call it 12 noon EDT. I can then ajudicate some time in the evening. Unfortunately, the built in email system does not work. PM me orders, and disregard what I said above. If at any time a PM bounces, post an FYI in this thread so I know the problem is on my end.

That is all.

OK, I resolve all discussion and begin planning movements. Time to read up somemore... :D :D

I forgot to ask, what timezone is EDT? What major city? Or, if you know, how many hours plus GMT?

Well, looks like I'm Austrian. Okay. When do we officially start?

Strategery For Sale

While perusing the list of contestants, I noticed that a few of those listed would have been ruled ineligible, even by Vietnam era Army recruiting standards, by virtue of mental incompetence. For this reason, I will make myself available to provide advice on allegiances & campaigns.

Also, be warned, the Adjudicator is not impartial, and has been banned by two online gaming sites for misrepresentation and cheating. If you'd like advice on how to get an edge in this game by capitalizing on this, let me know.

So, are you offering your political and military advise?

EDIT: Yes, I am offering my military and political advice to all who apply for it. I have commanded legions, and am a profound source of cunning strategy.

Actually, if the Witchking has any Dip experience, he might make an excellent consultant for one of our novice generals. To keep things from getting overly complex, I'd suggest he restrict himself to just one player who he feels he can have a meaningful intercourse with.

BTW, I was banned for posting nude pictures of the Tsarina, not for cheating... but that is another story.

Nippy and Aegis: your density never ceases to amaze. EDT is eastern daylight savings time. Perhaps you have heard of Toronto, NYC, or Washington DC? And you already have begun... whether you know it or not.

But do you consider that I am not American and never took the time needed to know what EDT is?

LOL...bloody colonials think they're the centre of the universe or something :D

On a Diplomacy-related note, how often are moves going to be made? Will it be every week on Friday or more often?

In reponse to Waverly's third person question as to Foul's experience in the game, the Witch King does have some. This bit of experience is supplemented by other strategy games such as A&A, Risk, Chess, etc. In addition, I know all the ways to screw up office politics, as I've done them.

By the way, for those who have difficulty telling time:

(you may want to take up another game, perhaps checkers)

I'd like to progress a year a week (2 full turns plus any necessary builds and retreats,) but will be flexible with peoples schedules.

Witchking: Perhaps after this game is over you would be interesting in another? If we can rotate the ajudication to another willing party, I'd be interested myself. I'm surprised Ned never spoke up for a slot or Grunt didn't have an interest... it also occurs to me we can look at varients that would allow more players. Aberration is a good one and I believe it plays 9.

Nip: I'm not in the UK, but I certainly know what time it is there. Perhaps we are just smarter stateside. :p

Or perhaps the UK has only one timezone and America has three and I wasn't sure what one of those three you were in? :p :p :D

I will try and sort myself out for twice a week, but I will let you know if I am a busy man... :)

2 moves? Is this right - are we going to play both spring and autumn campaigns together without seeing what other players do in the spring?

And unless Waverly the Great Overseer* has declared otherwise, we are in Spring, 1901.

Thanks, typo that should have been 1 move.
Anyway, you figure out how to build troops during the winter season?
I can't seem to do that on the real politik thing.
