Why fix it? I think the new 3rd edition rules sound like a drag. I will take the good old first edition AD&D rules any day.

Except a lot of AD&D was broken. Third edition is hardly perfect, but nevertheless it's much smoother, easier to learn and play, and has much better multi-classing rules. You also get a great deal more freedom in 3e then you ever did in AD&D. Trust me, once you experience it for yourself, you won't want to go back. Image

I have to agree with Kayless. I have been playing D&D since 1981, I started with "Basic" moved to "Advanced" and then finally moved to "2nd Edition". There were never any real improvements in the game, just add-ons. They added kits, they added some new spells, Hell, they even added the Forgotten Realms! All this did was bog the game down, not make it better!
Now comes the 3rd Edition... much more streamlined, very user friendly. I especially like the way that it deals with character creation. I have to say that this, finally, is an improvement!
