No numbers because many I can't really rank between each other... Unfortunately this might not be my perfect list, as my memory ain't perfect.

Pearl Jam - Black *IMO, the best song I've ever heard*
Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
Radiohead - Paranoid Android
Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm
Tool - Schism
Eagles - Hotel California
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Metallica - Unforgiven
Phil Collins - In the Air Tonight (Something about how dark this song is - it doesn't even need bass or volume to feel sadistic)

@Matthew: In case you don't know, Lake of Fire is a cover of The Meat Puppets (I've never heard it, but I still love the remake anyway).

I've only got 1 :)

The Rolling stones - Red door or black door or something.

From tour of duty. But I'm not really into rock 'n roll, most of the songs are ok. But this one is the only one (IIRC) for me that really rocks.

Rolling Stones: "Paint it Black" - the Lyrics you're reffering to are "I see a red door and I want it painted black..."

No worries,

Beldin **oh god, I DO feel OLD**

@Beldin-Considering I'm only 18 and I tend to listen to and enjoy the same bands as you do, I wouldn't worry about it.

Pink Floyd-Wish you were here
Ben Harper-Oppression, Burn One Down
The Doors-The End, Riders on the Storm (perfect for rainy days), Alabama Song
Led Zeppelin-Stairway to Heaven, Immigrant Song, Battle of Evermore
Many more I can't remember the names of right now...

I'm guessing you don't get many bands around your neck of the woods?

Hendrix - Peace in Mississippi
Beatles - She's So Heavy

and for Matt's sake I'll add

and for ageing hippie's sake I'll add

Joni Mitchell - My Old Man
Van Morrison - Beside You

and if they're allowed Aretha Franklin I'll add

Otis Redding - Hard To Handle

wow, ten exactly! Who'd have known? :)

Something puzzles me about this listing:

They have Bob Dylan but not Leonard Cohen.

I like Bob Dylan. He's good. I have quite a few of his discs

But Cohen is by far the more superior lyricist and composer, and he has some highly memorable songs: Suzanne, Famous Blue Raincoat, Bird on the Wire, Hey, That's no Way to Say Goodbye, etc...

Ok. You might say he's not rock 'n' roll - but neither is Dylan! At least I don't think so! :p

Anyway, in no particular order:

REM - Losing My Religion (the video just creases me up every time I see it!)
Don McLean - "Vincent"
The Doors - Riders on the Storm
Leonard Cohen - Memories (another one that has me rolling in the aisles!)
The Beatles - Hey Jude
Leonard Cohen - The Window
Meatloaf - Bat out of Hell (Not sure if he counts as R&R?)
Bob Dylan - Lay Lady Lay (Surely not R&R?)
David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust (yeah, ok, I know!)
Leonard Cohen - Love Itself

That would probably be Blood of the Kings, but even seeing that song on the list is worth it. :D

I'll make a top ten list, but for now:

Long Live Rock 'n' Roll - Rainbow
