When I am in the Copper Coronet sewers there is a trap (a door is lying over a bit of water). I have no thiefs at the moment (Nalia is kidnapped). When I walk over this trap, several NPC's become petrified (petrification). Their portraits are immediately removed from my party.

.At first I thought this was something like Hold Person or Ability Drain, so I waited and waited, and waited, and waited, and...well I think you get the point

. Nannyway, what can I do about this? I have saved the game and I can get Nalia free first, but I want to know it just in case it happens again.

Petrification is permanent in that victims to this spell are turned to stone and will remain so, until something reverses the effect.
You need to have another mage use either a Stone to Flesh scroll or spell or you could have any character using the Ring of Earth Control and its Flesh to stone ability...

Slight spoilers
Oh dear, I suspect you wandered into the Slavers Compound. The traps here can kill you.
As Eerhardt mentioned, you need the stone to flesh reversal spell. Alternatively, reload from your saved game and avoid the middle area near the steps. Difficult to achieve unless you have a thief to suss out the trap perimeter. Better to wait until you get Nalia back or simply get Jan in the government district to clear the traps for you.

There is an amulet (I believe you get it while freeing H'D from the mage in the sewers) that improves your saving throws vs pertification. So for that particular trap, have them walk over one by one and "throw over" the amulet to the NPC next in line. Of course, it is both easier and safer to remove the trap with a thief.

In that case, I will first free Nalia. It is the easier way. But I have no clue how to free her. Some ppl talk about a drunk man in the Docks District and that you get the tip form one of the kidnappers' soldiers. As far as I am concerned, the passage thing in my journal is saying that I have to free her. D'Arnise keep can't be accesed, Roenall estate (twice the L, is it the same family?) in Governement District is barred from the inside. People (including Roenal's father) in Graveyard want talk to me.
What do I have to do?????

I have seen this walkthrough before, but my question is: How do you know you have to talk to that man in the docks?? You have to have some kind of clue first, right?? And I don't want to be metagaming by talking to him right away

1 day after the funeral of Nalia's father, a messenger by the name of Isea (sp?) will come to you and Nalia and demand that she honours her commitments. She will then be placed under arrest. Keldorn (for you, it may be another NPC, this is event-triggered) then suggested that this sounded fishy, and I'd best go look for some evidence. Not long after this, another guy (can't remember his name) will come up to ask you to look for Barg in the docks.
Admittedly I got stuck here; what I did then was to consult Dan's walkthru, went to the government district to look for a building which has the financial documents in a drawer that can proof Isea's wrongdoing. After that, Nalia will be freed to rejoin you.
