Hey I was just wondering

Do the bonus's to hit and damage for strength, combine with the bonus's for dexterity when using a bow?

Or do you just get your hit bonus's from dex, and no advantages at all from having a high strength if you were an, archer for example.

its a little confused...

sling of seeking and certain high level slings, with great bonuses can get bonus by high str, but bows are not, i think...hard and fast rule is equipp, switch str belts and see what happens...

Missile weapons get the bonus from dex, normal weapons from Str.

With high dexterity and NO proficiency points in bows, I still have the same Thaco with a bow as with another weapon of similar enchantment I'm proficient with (*) e.g. a bow+3 without proficiency equals the Thaco of a long sword+3 with proficiency.

that would seem to mean that strength is comalative with dex bonus's.

I don't think you do more damage with a bow, because of high Strength.
  • Strength normally only affects your chances to hit with a melee weapon and the damage you do on a successful hit.
  • Dexterity affects your Armor Class (high dexterity will actually lower your AC) and your chances to hit with a ranged weapon (can't remember whether it also affects the damage you do on a succesful hit with a ranged weapon; will have to check the manual)
Strength and Dexterity are only cumulative for hurled missile weapons (bullets, axes,...).

righto I was just curious I knew they affected melee and ranged but since their both physical weapons....

I guess the +damge and to hit you get with bows makes up for no bonus's to damge with dex which makes sense. which can be superior since you have the option of updating your bow and your arrows. not just 1 entire sword and such.

@thespac: I checked the manual and I've added a correction in my previous post... According to the manual, the Strength and Dexterity bonuses should be cumulative for hurled missile weapons like bullets and axes. For bows, however, Strength and Dexterity bonuses aren't cumulative. Hope this answer will suffice :) .

Thanks for all your work in getting me an answer, it really helps with point allocation.
