Oh, the choices!! Who will be my 6th char?

Arrghhh!!
i cant decide who will be my 6th char for my party! Everytime i think i have found it, suddenly a new idea popps to my head. BTW, this is one of the reasons i love BG2 so much...
Anyway, this is my party in general:
Me, Artemis, an elven F/M (multi) dual-wielding swords, and long bows for ranged.
Korgan the Berserker, dual-wielding axes and hammers.
A custom Swashbuckler/Cleric (dual, 10/20), dual-wielding flails, slings for ranged.
Jaheira the F/D, using staves and spears, sling for ranged.
Kelsey (the new NPC!), the sorcerer. using staves and spears.

so....
i'm heavy on the front (four amazing fighters), AND i'm loaded with magic (one sorcerer, one cleric, half a mage and half a druid!), a beat weak on the thief side (10th level thief, enough but not many, AND he's not a backstaber, but so am i :-) .
so...
who shall be my 6th char (yes, i DO want a 6th char)?
it should be a ranged one, no doubt, but it should also be able to use 2 handed weapons (i love halberds, but no one to wield them!).
so i've thought about:
* A Bard - uses X-bows or short bows, and capable of using halbreds. an excellent supporter, and a cool ability pool in ToB. And, on top of all, Bards are fun IMHO (hmmm... another astafas Vs. User fight....).
* An assassin - uses short bows, backstabber, and eventually will use halberds (with UAI).
* Jan - uses short bow of Tuigan, and eventually will use halberds (with UAI). like the assassin, but less of a backstabber, but he's half a mage, and he's FUN.

what do you advise me to do?
jan, bard or an assassin?
maybe something i didnt thought about?
thnx!

Got to it first! Go for the Bard! Why not take in User's old time favourite Haer'Dalis? He'll do great with the Halberd and Bows/X-Bows.

LOL

If you've got ToB you can wait for Sarevok. Or, pick up Keldorn, then give him slots in Halbred ASAP.

Oh ya, In my current game, I have Mazzy using a Halbred, shes not bad. Jan doesnt have the strength for a halbred, you need to give him a belt, and thatd suck

if you want a backstabber - here's your choices:

valigar - a stalker, will have enough proficiencies to use halberds, and has some great personnal items (armour and katana, for which you shoul get the baldurash fix, to make him able to backstab with it)

sarevok - dual him to a thief as soon as you get him, level him up to level 11, then don't level him up untill he gets enough XP to get his old class back - this way, you'll be able to put 2 extra prof's (from level 12, 16) into halberd, and have him ***** in it by level 20! you'll have enough thief skills between your thief and sarevok for the time he's noot levelling up.

or, get valigar in Soa, and change him to sarevok in ToB

LMAO :D :D :D

so should i go with Hear'Dalis, Valygar, Jan or an assassin?
Remembaer, though, that if i'll go with Valygar i won't get any of the thief High Level Abilities, which i really want.

Who shall i choose?

Alson, you have TOTALLY made my day. I actually pulled up this thread fully intending to put in a plug for Kelsey.

Because you're playing with Kelsey, I would strongly recommend you choose a Bioware NPC--that way you'll get to see his new banter with them.

You've got a lot of power in that party, but nobody to turn undead, so you might consider Anomen--he can't handle halberds but he can do a lot besides.

Kelsey and Jan together are a lot of fun: 3 banters, plus Jan makes Kelsey a little present.

I am planning to play a game that will initially be composed of:
PC (ranger/cleric - multiclass), her stats are 18/71, 18,18,13,18,10 (I honestly did not cheat, I was in shock when that die roll appeared after only about a minute of rolling :D )
Kelsey
Anomen(I figure that watching the these two love interests bickering ought to be a blast :D )
Jan

I may pick up Yoshi just prior to exiting chapter two ( ;) ).....and then eventually I will recruit Imoen, and Solaufein.

It could be that the party may be a bit overpowered, since it will have plenty of melee, clerical, magic and thieving skills, but I suppose I can always ram up the difficulty level if it proves to be a little easy.

I think i've got it!
i dont like Hear'Dalis personaliy (a bit TOO hippy for me :( ), and i really love Jan's, Plus he'll interact with Kelsey more often.
so...
my solution is:
Shadowkeeping Jan into a Bard!!!
I get to play a class i want, a personality i love, AND it is good Roleplaying, cuz in my own Chaotic good way, i think Jan will serve my good purposes better as a Bard :D :D :D
So what do you say?
Should i do it?

Give it a shot :) I'm all up for changing character classes in SK just to keep the fun interactions in a party.

Thanx for the vote of confidence, man!
I was really holding my flaming sheild up ;) :p
So now all that is left is to decide what kind of bard Jan will be - the Skald kit is useless due to the Enhanced Bard Song, and so does the Jester. We still have pure Bard and a Blade.
The Blade is MUCH stronger, IMHO, but i just can't imagine Jan as the fighting, sword-swinging bard... Halbred-swinging on the other hand... :D :D :D
So i guess i will SK him into a normal Bard, using Shortbows, Crossbows (they are verstaile, dont they?) and of course - Halbers for melee (and 2 handed swords later).
Any tips on how to equip and utilize him in combat?

Hm.. I could see Jan dual wielding blunt weapons, but not slashing weapons for some reason. Like MoD and Fail of Ages, that just makes sense to me :)

Still...
Any tips on how to equip and fight with him? Astafas?
Remember, he'll spend MOST of the time in the BACK, using spells and ranged weapons.
That said, i guess a blade could be better, cuz the Offensive Spin could make him a much better archer - combined with the Tuigan Shortbow, he'll have 4 shots/round, for MAX damage, for 4 rounds... not bad...

Damn!!
Just got another idea!
Instead of a Blade...
I'll SK him into... a Fighter/Thief!
i don't think i need the extra spells from the bard side - i already have a sorcerer and half a mage, and the Fighter/Thief is a better archer, a better thief (to compemelt my 10th level swashbuckler), can use Halberds, and can backstab...
but...
the only problem is...
I just can imagine Jan as a fighter/thief!
With all his stories, Jan can definetly be a Bard, but a Fighter?
So, what would jan be?
A blade or a fighter/thief (multi, of course)?

I would go for an ordinary Bard - then you can imagine Jan being a Professor, which is a popular kit available to gnomes. Very interested in inventions, lecturing and such. Then why not let him learn only illusionists spells? Would be an appropriate penalty for you messing around with SK (shame on you Alson, you gonna end up like User! :D )...

The X-Bow is perfect for a gnomish Professor, as is all Jan's other gear. I've read gnomes also favor the Spear, which gives a good reach despite them being small. A Halberd would probably be a bit awkward.
