Biff the Understudy! HELP!

I did just finish the Gnoll fortress and returned with my party to Nashkel. Once there i let Dynaheir enter the garrison and tell that guard to shut up, i left her there and let Imoen go and talk to Edwin cause i wanted to see if he was better than Dynaheir.

So Imoen talks to him and offers him to join, and i choose to kick out Dynaheir from my party. She is inside the garrison and cannot tell Minsc to leave to. Now to the problem.

Once i finshed the "kick-out thing" there came up a guy called Biff the Understudy who told Minsc to leave with him... He just said it out loud no message on the screen or so. Than he just stands there like a stupid guy, so i let Imoen talk to him and i offered him to join...(Is that really possible?)

He joined and i kicked out Viconia, he was a fighter on level 0 with no profiencies at all....=(

Than i tried to quicksavre and the whole game just hung up, so i restarted my computer...and did nothing more...

I have TotSC installed...but no other patch, i bought BG1 and TotSC in the same box... Does anyine have an idea of what happended to me???

Yeah, the Biff character was develped to add stability to the story. Like UncleScratchy said, if an element of the story is missing, Biff takes over.
I've had Biff appear as Brother Thurm (Basilisus' zombie) and Prism the artist, even Mad Arcand.
I cant wait for the day when Biff appears and says "Face me, the new Lord of Murder!"

Without spoiling too much, I had a whole bunch of Biff the Understudies show up before a certain battle because I had used a Wand of Sleep before the pre-battle dialog. :D

Does he only anter the game when i want to split up some pairs?
That cannot be correct, I left Xzar in the temple in Friendly Arm inn and kicked him out of the party. Biff didn't enter the game at that point...

No, Biff enters the game when you have done something to break the plot, and usually doesn't show up when you split up pairs. However, Minsc and Dynaheir appear to be scripted a bit differently from the others.

I think it might have something to do with the fact that Edwin was involved. If you have both Minsc & Dynaheir in your party and talk to Edwin, he mutters something about D already having allies and asks to join so he can keep an eye on her. *shrugs* Just a thought.

I've never tried to split up these two so there might be a scripting issue as Sojourner suggests. Biff doesn't appear when splitting Khalid & Jaheira.

Biff does get involved with J and K actually. I dropped them both at the same time and on a later date i returned to find they were now a trio, biff was there too. i talked to him and all three joined. no game seizing or anything, but got rid of them all again anyway.

Maybe bioware want you to have J and K because they are big story part

So are Minsc and Dynaheir, which is probably why Dios was getting Biff when he tried to split them.

Yeah... but I don't think it is justified that bioware should nack up your computer just because you do something a bit cheesy...

I've split J and K in the past without any interference from Biff. I'm thinking that this instance was a glitch and you should try it again.

I stripped Jaheria and walked her into the guard barracks in Nashkel, then when the rest of the party was at a safe distance, I removed her and Kahlid never said a word about it. AFAIK as long as the two NPC's cant talk to each other, you should be able remove one from any of the NPC pairs from your party in this fashion.

I found an easy way to split any pair. Strip down the one that you do not want, send that one alone into a building that you have already searched and never intend to go into again. Click back to your main character and reform party to exclude the unwanted one. Since the pair cannot talk to one another, the one left in the party will not leave. Do not re-enter the building with any character or the split will take place. Most (not all, especially Edwin) will rejoin the party if you wish to bring them back by entering the building and speaking to them. This was more in line with my playing style instead of killing someone off by sending them naked to fight alone. This also gives me the opportunity to have them rejoin if so needed.

Question...

Just out of interest, do Eddy and Dyna count as a pair? ie will one leave if the other does?

No,
Dyna and Minsc do count as a pair.
But I usually send 1 of a pair into battle (alone) without armour, then you can have only one without it leaving!!!

Ehm... as far as NPC's that count.. i have NEVER used Minsc and Dynaheir. ever!!!. But when you start SOA you are just supposed to have them in your party!.
I have played BG (without ToSc) 2 times, and i have done it with a comlpetly different setup!
