What is a 'Guest'?

Just wondering. I assumed guests were browsers, unregistered lurkers? The reason I ask, is on a couple of occasions when I have checked who is online, I have seen a 'guest' using 'User CP' and today I saw a guest using the private messaging system. Is there a delay between being a 'guest' and an acknowledged registered member that affords these actions? or is a 'guest' not always a guest?

Hmm... I'm not really sure why it would show "Guest" as being online. With the new alter-ego rule, I have been deleting quite a few usernames from the database that people have emailed me about. When I delete a username, all of that user's old posts become posted by "Guest", so maybe it's related to what you're seeing.

Possibly...but having looked tonight it shows 18 guests in the 'who's online' ...all reading posts except one who is reporting a post *confused*

I'd say guests are unregistered browsers. As for the activites, I tend to delete my cookies. So its not uncommon for me to sometimes try to write a PM, whilst being unaware of the fact that I haven't logged in.

Also, the board recognizes you as a guest if you decide to log on in invisible mode.

I guess this depends, I'm invisible right now and there is no one showing up in the Gamebanshee Discussion Forum. I have hit reload 5 times and still no body.

Most of the guests that I see are on the BG forums, so I'm not sure that those who are invisible would show up as 'guests'.

I agree that the invisibility option would not show you as a guest. I like Tammy's idea that the board recognises your IP but you have not logged on yet
