If I import my old PC, is it possible to change the class within his kit (making a paladin a inquisitor, a ranger a stalker...)?

too bad bg1 npcs are not imported, only the pc so do you think it's fair to change npc stats - for example setting Immie's int to 18 if she used the tome of int in bg1... share your opinions...

If you import someone from BG I to BG II: SoA and change their kit within the class how do weapon proficiencies work? Say I had a thief in BG and now I want to make him a swashbuckler is there any way that I can give him additional weapon proficiencies (move the ones he has now). On the other side of the spectrum what if my character had more weapon proficiencies and his kit was changed to one that allowed fewer, what happens in this case? ie. A ranger in BG I is imported as an archer.

When you import a character from BG1, you have to reselect the weapon proficiencies and reallocate thieving points, regardless of whether or not you choose a kit.

@Xan de Vir:
When I imported directly of course I had all the stats improvements.
When I create new characters, I feel like I have the right to use
those tomes (I've played BG1 3 times...), but I raise only Int if I
have a mage or Wis for a priest type, or Dex for a thief.
The main stat only..
BUT, if I DON'T take a mage, then I give 1 Int point to Immie:
I could use potions, but 18 int is handy!
