I just beat the original BG2 and have jumped into the expansion. I had heard of the Big Metal Unit and decided that I would attempt to construct it. I have the gold pantaloons and the silver pants already. The problem is I didn't have them on me when I killed Irenicus and started the expansion, they were sitting on a table at the Copper Coronet. My question is do I need to have those on me as I start the expansion or will they show up somewhere that I can recover them. Any answers will be most helpful.

You can do several things:
- Use ShadowKeeper to put them into your inventory.
- Use the console to cheat them in:
CLUAConsole:CreateItem("misc47")
CLUAConsole:CreateItem("misc5o")

The reason why you need to use SK is because the third and last pantaloons can only be obtained in BaldursGate 1.
Gives you another reason to buy BG1...

Silverpantaloons: Baldur's Gate II (SoA)- ransom for the kidnapping quest (started in the graveyard districkt with the buried alive man)
Bronze .............(they have a different name: Baldur's Gate II (ToB) - Abazigal's lair, by using a stone-to-flesh scroll on the stoneadventurers and sending them on a quest.

you can also use clua console to just make the big metal unit and the ammo.
secret01 is the gun
secret02 is ammo
secret03 is more ammo
secret04 is more ammo
secret05 is the big metal unit
I found the big metal unit kinda useless though, by ToB most of my AC, even mages were low negatives, plus the fact the the big metal unit turns you into a juggernaut golem, which makes it nearly impossible for you to navigate, especially in dungeons and close spaces.
