You find the dwarven mine by going South out of Balmora, and cross the bridge immediately after passing the Silt rider.
Then head along to Fort Moonmoth, there is a signpost a little bit before, and a path heading upwards into the mountain (the fort will be to your right when you climb the path)..On top of the hill is the bridge you need to cross, and the mine is straight ahead.
Be prepared for a "little" fight before you get there though..
I've just been in the mine myself, spent forever trying to jump a certain broken bridge that I was certain led to the box...which it seemingly doesn't after reading this forum--anyone been past that broken bridge in Heaven's Room (or something)? I spent half an hour jumping on the spot to up my acrobat skill from measly 10 to 16, still JUST couldn't get over. Got pissed off with the whole thing and teleported to the nearest shrine with a scroll
Guess I have to head back now.

ok, damn, I was close to it then
I crossed that bridge, but just must not have seen it. Guess I'll go back and try and find it again.

Yeah the puzzle box is early in and pretty easy to get. The rest of the dungeon is more difficult and you can skip it and still do the quest if you have to. As for the lava jump, I did it, I always jump a lot and get that Acrobatics up! Anyway there is nothing really up there except a really cool looking room and another bandit to kill. That's all. But get that Acrobatics up! "Jump Around! Jump Around! Jump up Jump up and get down!"
Who knows maybe all that cool stuff in that dungeon turns out to be important later on.

BAHAHAHA
Man, I KNOW exactly where you mean. I must have cleared the WHOLE mine. He isn't talking about the lava bridge, that's easy. IF you fight your way in FAR you will come to a big building with water in front of it, and a broken bridge. The building is multi-tier and apparently from my experiences and his, you cannot get to the higher levels. I'm gonna go backtrack to the beginning now and get that stupid MF'ing box. Rofl... thanks

Yeah, but the thing is, if you jump around all the time (which is alot faster to move around) you neglect the athletics skill..
My first char was a spellsword who had like 15 athletics to start with..i almost died of boredom walking/running the big distances in balmora..So got bored and changed character to a WoodElf ranger..starting out with 35 athletics..incredible difference.
Let's hope my trusty bow and sword/shield combo will take me far in the lands. Not that great with spells, the destruction skill started on 5 so that's outta the window. Restoration is a minor skill though, are there any really cool and helpful spells in that school? other than healing?

Yah, my athletics skill is sorta weak as an Assassin, do you know any good ways to get it up?

Well you COULD just put a heavy weight on the W key, and a heavy weight in the left arrow key, and go to bed..running in circles for an entire night in realworld time oughtta do the trick?
Too bad it can't work for jumping..gotta press E every damn time.
That can't be considered cheating could it? You're in fact just running alot. Might have buried yourself in a trench when you wake up and go back to the PC that you can't get out of though..better not leave him walking in circles for too long, eh?

Hahaha well, I am pretty new to the game, I was just wondering what the increase ran on. Apparently it's just running
Thanks.

What purpose does it serve? I'm still short in the game and I needed a good longsword.. So my brother showed me to the mine to find the dwarven Claymore (and get some training/equipment/cash in the process)
I've been underground for some days and I've grown like 3 levels and I've cleared out the mine completely.. taken everything, etc.
Now the dwemer puzzle box is laying right in front of me on a shelf and I can't pick it up.. Or this is a bug or I'm not allowed to pick it up yet for some reason. Will I ever need to go find it for a quest, and then be able to pick it up?

Q) It seems I'm unable to pick up the puzzlebox, why is that and what now?
This seems to have been a rare bug which some people suffered from. Make sure you have all the necassary quest journal entries in your journal. Try to pick it up from every angle possible. Still no luck? If you're on pc you can cheat it in your inventory.
Open the console ~ and type:
player->AddItem, "misc_dwrv_ark_cube00", 1

You don't need to jump that broken bridge to get to the other side. You can walk there. Just stay on the path and cross beside the lava, on the left.
Or, if you have done that and are trying to jump to the other side of the bridge from there - forget it! Go back to the path, turn to the tumbled area on the bridge side and climb up to the broken bridge. You have to jump a bit to get over the railing at the top, but that is easy.
