Hi,

This is my spell strategy for my Kensai Mage, what do you think?

Minor Sequencer- 2 Magic Missiles
Spell Sequencer - Protection from Evil, Stoneskin, Mirror Image
Spell Trigger - Protection from Acid, Death Fog, Death Fog
Contingency @ 10% hitpoints - Mislead
Chain Contingency - Always have one memorised, ready for any situation, for assault I can have 3 Abi Dalzims, 3 Project Images, etc, or defense I can have Mislead, Multiple Images, Tensers etc.

Spell Trigger will goes with Contingency, when Contingency sets off I will trigger my Spell Sequencer, thereafter I will have 4 layers of protection:

Mislead - grants ultimate invisiblity, cannot be targetted by spells
Mirror Image - Immune to area effect spells
Stoneskin - Protection fromphysical attacks
Protection from Evil - Grants +2 saving throws from all evil attacks

The only weakness are Dispel Magic, which removes everything if successful, and True Sight, which removes Mislead and Mirror Image, thereafter only Stoneskin and Protection from Evil are left, which still grants +2 saving throws, useful agains the spells and innate abilities of Liches, Demons, Vampires, etc, most of the powerful spellcasting enemies are evil, a better chance to save for negate or half damage.

The Spell Trigger setup is a lich killer, the Spell Trigger is targetted at myself, with Protection from Acid, I am immune to the double Death Fog centered at myself, so I can still remain inside the area of effect casting spells and hacking away. With no saving throws allowed, it does 8 X 2= 16 damage per round, hurts liches and disrupts spell casting, and instantly kills summoned creatures. I guess you have to remain in the area of effect to attract enemies to you, else they eventually moves out of the affected area anyway. I tested on a CLUAed Lich, 2 Death Fog is enough to kill a lich before the Death Fog expires.

Chain Contingency is always memorised without setup, ready for any situation, for assault or defense. 3 Abi Dalzims, 3 Project Images, etc, or defense, Mislead, Multiple Images, Tensers etc.

For Imoen:

Minor Sequencer- 2 Magic Missiles
Spell Sequencer - 3 Skull Traps
Spell Trigger - Haven't found a scroll for Imoen yet
Contingency @ 25% hitpoints - Mislead
Chain Contingency @ 25% hitpoints - Tensers Transformation, Protection from Energy, Improved Haste.

Spell Trigger intend to have 3 Death Fogs, to compliment my Kensai Mage's Spell Trigger mentioned above, Imoen will cast after my Kensai Mage's Spell Trigger, and after casting she will retreat back. 5 X 8= 40 damage per round. When I find a Spell Trigger scroll that is.

Imoen's Contingency and Chain Contingency will protect her from being targeted by spells, gives her improved invisiblity, 75% resistance to all type of magical damage, heal her and improve her defense and attacks. This ensure she survives and still contributes to the hacking and slashing.

Nice,
I hardly use trigger or sequensers, don't know why.
Maybe I never understood their true power.

I realy like the
Spell Trigger - Protection from Acid, Death Fog, Death Fog

I don't think theres something like the best combination, try difffernt options.

The death fog trigger for instance is rather good, when soloing, but not in a party....

and for different battles there are different solutions that work great.

well, spell triggers, and sequencers, including minor sequencer, i never get for sorc, cause too many creatures in the game, specially with sola mod, go invisible as part of their combat script.. you your spell fizzes, and if you have it in sequencer or trigger, you are SOL, since the icon still remains in your portrait, and you cna no longer cast it....

teh exception is using on yourslef, to buff up..

minor...
defensive-mirror image, resist fear...
offensive--try spooks...(will disable dragons...making them easy pickings...do not try on undead)

sequencer
offensive-defnsive-remove magic, remove magic, stoneskin...will buff you up, and a double has a good chance of punching thru combat protections...cast on yourself...

trigger--tripel sunfire will punch thru magic resistant creatures like drow and golems...will kill most clay golems, and every drow in game..

fight with contingency and chain contingency...keep severla mem all times...

contingency is very under appreciated, since its auto cast on yourself only, but at higher caster levels, true sight, sunfire, and imp haste, if you dual wield becomes possible, including mislead. this sounds funny, but true sight on see enemy saved my but many times... the 3 or 5 round fires of true sihgt will keep them from gloing invisible, thus you can kill them...

chain contingency...cast and attack, you can cast while attacking and go back to whacking...

try khelbens warding whip...for use on drow, mage fighters and dragons...will interrupt thier spells and drop most combat protections...better on mage classes, not spell casting monsters, but a superb spell, works well on many liches...

The point in using defensive contigencies is to gain ONE round,
so you can cast time-stop.

I use this combo:
Cont.: Mislead
Chain Cont: Mirror Image, Prot. Magical Weapons, Prot. From Energy.

Don't set to 10% HPs, you'll be dead before you know what hit you.
ALWAYS go for 50%!!
Then play to stay ABOVE that.

Uh, Mirror Image doesn't grant area spells immunity, only a nice
chance to avoide the damage, as for melee (at least I think so...)

I understand the Mirror Image don't give immunity, but most of the time you are alright from those area effect spells.

At high levels (exp cap removed), I usually set to 10% for Kensai Mage contingencies, for Imoen is 25%, nonetheless it is a risky gamble, but main reason is that I do not like them triggering off unnecessary, so when it does triggers off I know I am really in danger.
