Update coming

From the Bethsoft staff, posted on their boards:

As we all know, Bethsoft will not be officially updating the game for some time now, and there are hundreds of you out there with concerns about everything from general gameplay, to specific bugs or balancing issues.

The plugin that is to be released soon is adding a few whole new areas accessable from certain points of the game world. We will not be changing much about the original game except for the occasional fix (which usually you can turn on or off), so that the people that dont want their world messed with can have it the same. However, for those that want some more depth, complex powers and unique races are being added, as well as many many unique items and areas for you to explore.

Redesigned and more unique classes and abilites are also being implemented for those that seek something new. Animators who focus on controlling a long term pet, martial artists who can shatter weapons with their bare fists, and an optional regeneration feature for hitpoints and mana over time without sleep that is varied upon race are a few features being implemented.

One last feature that I will share for now is the intro. Some of you have been testing the game and have created perhaps dozens of redesigned characters... and maybe you are tired of walking through the newbie tutorial over and over. There will be an option to skip this and quickly design your new character to test out some of the abilities, or you can keep your current character and nothing will be affected but new, more intelligent foes may challenge you.

For the new areas, the repetitive random no thinking creaters are being removed and the AI is being developed. Finally a more extensive plot line is being added with several twists and turns, and recruitable party members will be available at your choosing.

Thanks for the update Fable. This is great news. The Bethsoft folks have created an easily customizable game engine and the possibilities are limitless. The construction tools are great. I am working on making my own fortress to rule the world from - great stuff.

The only thing missing is online play. If Neverwinter Nights comes off well we are on the way to true alternate realities.

Sorry for the spam - but the the upcoming generation of RPGs get me all in a lather... :p

I'm not sure why you thought this was from Bethsoft, especially since it refers to them in the third person. In the general forums at the official Morrowind forums, the post was done by a person called Orgrim who is just a modder advertising his upcoming plug in. This was the paragraph before the info posted in the original post in this thread:

----
'Greetings!

Well if you are even at this forum, it is because you are seeking information, looking to share an idea about something you would like changed, or maybe its just because you dont have access to the game at the moment, and are so addicted that you need your fix on something

Whatever the case, your input is welcomed on this thread. Currently in development is a very professionally organized and balanced plugin for Morrowind. As we all know, Bethsoft will not be officially updating the game for some time now, and there are hundreds of you out there with concerns about everything from general gameplay, to specific bugs or balancing issues.'
-----

And from then on it continued. Basically it promises a lot of things but most people are taking it with a pinch of salt since he later claims to have already completed a lot of the work. Problem is that the game was released such a short while ago and it sounds too good to be true...

Eitherway, its not offical and Im not sure why he thinks Bethsoft won't update their game anytime soon because they have never made any such statement. If necessary, patches will certainly be released I expect to fix any big issues if they exist.

I suppose a warez version of the game (both cd's) was released a couple of weeks before the official released..they always are.
Maybe he got hold of that asap and has had the game a while longer than those who actually went out and bought it and supported the developers.

Probably not. All preview and test code was branded and registered to specific individuals, so that any warez leaks of early builds would basically shout who did the dirty deed. I suppose this protection could be removed, but the Bethsoft folks were pretty certain it would be fvar more trouble than it's worth. And I hope they're right, because no developer deserves to have their life's blood stolen.

@Viz, I thought this was from Bethsoft for four reasons: 1) my source offered it as being from Bethsoft devs, 2) it's been posted on other Morrowind forums as being from Bethsoft devs, 3) it was posted in the Morrowind General forum rather than the Mods one, and 4) there have been cases (BG2/ToB, for one; tweaked battles and AI, new powers for the main character) where individual devs released small mods after a game appeared.

If this information is inaccurate, I apologize to everybody who got their hopes up as a result. On the positive side, there appears to be a lot of mod activity underway, including bugfixes; so we can all hope for mods much sooner than has been the case with games such as BG2.

Could be as simple as that it is in fact an official update from BS (no pun intended there), and that the Orgrim guy had just cut'n'pasted it. For all to see. He wanted to share his newfound knowledge with y'all. What a nice thing to do. The world should have more Orgrim's.

Actually, there is a decent enough chance that we could be getting it. DOA3.1 came out recently and theres no reason to think that the same thing wont/cant be done for good old Morrowind, so in response to Trix :D :D :D

[Edit: Changed their to there]
