To backstab, first have your thief Hide in Shadows, or make him/her invisible with a potion or spell. Next, have your thief get behind his/her target and whack him. This attack will be considered a backstab. To backstab again, your thief must re-hide. Dual-/multi-class thieves must use melee weapons usable by the thief class to backstab, otherwise you'll get a "weapon unsuitable for backstabbing" message.

ok!
i have found a sword of backstabbing somewhere (i really can't remember where) but it was the hide in shadows part i missed!. cool, i'll have to try that out. ..
Eh, just thinking when you leave the shadows, don't the other guy wack you?! i mean.. can you hide in shadows again so quickly that the target won't notice?!

No, you have to be out of direct line of sight of an enemy in order to hide. You can always run behind a house or a rock or something and try to hide again.

backstabbing is one of the most asked question, i believe every one has asked it sometimes.
If you are with the cult members, then you did durlag's tower, did you bring the staff of striking (the one wtich charges)???
It's the best backstabbing weaon in the game, and you can recharge it by selling and re-buying it.
Good luck with the cult-members and the demon, if you need sugestions/tactics, feel free to ask!

The staff of striking is a quaterstaff, and it can be used by thiefes, and all thiefweapons can backstab.
Spoiler on how i killed the demon: Highlite to read it
I did it with only one character, make sure you drink a potion of mirrored eyes, and oil of speed comes in handy to.
When I entered the room i went straight to a corner and shot the cultists in sight with arrows of biting, then i went to the other corner and shot the cultists there.
Avoid the demon untill all cultists are dead.
This is very cheesy but it works well!
I went upstairs equiped the staff of striking, hide in shadows and went downstairs again, and backstabbed the demon.
And then repeated this, after 2 backstabbes he fell, but i'm soloing a fighter/thief so it might take longer for u.
You could also melee with you're whole party, as long as the drink a potion of mirrored eye, or used a scroll for the same effect (the potions of mirrored eyes can be bought in highedge, ulgar's beard inn, and sorceres saundries)
This is one of the hardest fights in the game, so drink a lot of potions if you think its necessary.
Good luck

Soloing means playing with only 1 character, so you don't take any NPC team members with you.
It's hard, but it's also fun to do.
Have you beaten the demon?

And because I solo i level up much faster, i'm currently a level 11 thief! and a level 9 fighter!!!

same here, a forum can take up a lot of time.
Soloing is realy fun, you use different tactics then when you're with a party.
The biggest problem I encountered so far is the lack of inventory space.
I cheated a little i made my arrows stack in groups of 100

Definitely - I spent much of my solo game wishing for a bag of holding. Before going into Durlag's Tower, I put most of my stuff into the containers at the Naskel Fair. I ended up making several trips to the Tower, only because my inventory got too full and my PC (fighter-thief) was too greedy to leave much behind.

i used to stash all my potions in a stash at the beginning of the tower level, and as soon as i could go down, i made a trip to bring all my potions to a stash at the next level, so my inventory wasn't full, but i could keep all my potions close

LOL - I did the same thing with my healing potions.

..i have allways used to house (infected with spiders). to stack my stuff. there are several drawers, and you can leave the stuff on the floor aswell, without it dissapearing. but there is a LONG way to Beregost when you are in Dulags tower!.. so i think i'll try your hint the next time i go there.. and that WONT be for a good amount of time (i just came out from there, and do NOT feel link doing it over again)

I'm currently in the city itself, didn;t do any quests there jet.
Will be a while when I finish i don't play much these days,
When i finish I intend to post the complete story (it will look alot like soljourners story) for those people intrested.
I do know the hardest fight I encounterd have to be the bandids just above the cave entrace where you exit the nashkell mines
