improved beholders tactics needed

Alright I'm having a serious problem clearing the Beholder Dungeon after installing the Solaufein mod. Any sure fire tactics out there because I've tried everything I can think of and they all result in groups of Beholders gathering around me and slaughtering me. By the way I'm soloing a multi-class F/M/T so if I screw up then I'm dead. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm sorry to say this because its too late in the game to start over without regretting you did it. I personally hate muticlasses. I hate tripleclasses. If you wanted to master a couple of classes, you should've done a fighter/mage dual class. Triple classing,in my humbe opinion, make the game 5 times harder. Sorry...

IMO the f/m/t is a very good soloclass. Do you have ToB? Even if you do have ToB I would recommend to remove the cap for maximum enjoyment. The fmt has enormous potential but it takes a long time to become really good.
Now I haven't installed the sola MOD so I can't really help you but if it is possible to beat these guys then the f/m/t can do it. What level are you?

POSSIBLE SPOILER:

Use the Shield of Balduran, cuz it's a nifty trinket against beholders. If you don't have that, the cloak that reflects spells back to the caster is usefull (Sorry, can't remember the name) A Protection from Magic scroll (assuming you have some....I can't remember whether the merchants there sell any) used on one person to catch the beholders' attention while the rest of your party stands back and uses ranged weapons/magic works well.
Unless the Soulafein Mod changes somethings around this might work.

Just guessing but I assume he is intentionally avoiding cheese like shield of Balduran as that makes beholders slightly harder than kobolds. Haven't gotten there yet in my game through sola mod so I can't help you in strats for killing them beyond the usual. Really beholders irk me so I wouldn't feel to bad about resorting to a bit of cheese on those when soloing (e.g. lots of summons, set some traps, hit and run, etc)

FMT is a perfectly reasonable soloing choice especially with ToB HLAs. Also dual classing while soloing is a serious pain especially if you want to get to 13 or higher in fighter for the extra attacks and bonuses (which you do want if you're going into ToB).

I'm not sure sola mod is going to be overly soloer friendly as its supposed to make monsters a bit less stupid and exploitable (which is not to say that there wont still be exploits, especially with the ridiculously powerful acid katana).

Thx for the help!

Thx for your quick replies, but I found a method that works. As for Shield of Balduran, nope don't use that or Cloak of Mirrors. Never really liked using shields or that cloak. And whats wrong with multi-classing? Soloed SoA with my F/M/T and he handled almost every situation with ease. Anyways I was at level 12/12/14 in the Beholder Dungeon. Also I didn't have enough points to set snares well enough(think I had 10 or so points in it) and summoning didn't help at all. My monsters got ripped apart by them playing at insane diff. Oh yea and I got ToB.

I have soloed SoA and ToB with a fmt aswell and ofcourse they rock, i removed the cap and gave him access to all the quest level spells(maybe thats why he was so good hehe)
So what method did you use?
Without Sola Mod I used mislead. Can they see invis now?

yep

Well, I setup around 10 skulltraps around me or so and threw a Cloudkill from a safe distance from my traps and took down about 8 or 9 of them in one area. The rest of them I ran away from (was only after Elder Orbs Eyestalk for quest). Yea they detect invisibility in a way. If you attack them in anyway they'll follow you around either until your invisibility wears off or they stop following like 20-30 seconds later.

Anyways now I'm stuck on Adalon. Anyone have experience killing new improved Dragons? Can't use magic cause if I get too close she'll use her Breath attack, which kills me in a single blow. If I run she'll automatically heal herself and cast dimension door and be right next to me and use her Breath attack. Stuck again damnit...

i would have advised getting greater deathblow, and cluaing in a frag grenade and the big metal rod...so funny to watch them all fall downunder deathblow...

giggle....

try this, this is my fav method of taking dragons down...best with 2 or more mages, fun and killer with 3-4,

load up spell trigger with lower resist, lower resist, and malison...

load up chain contingency with triple abu...go up to NON HOSTILE dragon, unload trigger, and start whacking with sword, or start casting dragon breaths...

chian fires, and this should kill it most of the time....

Yea, had gdeathblow, but I only use that for small packs of 2-3. The swarm that was following me consisted of of 6 atleast, and I couldn't seem to separate them from one another. Anyways I finished clearing the rest of them by hiding in shadows and using gdeathblow and death fogs. As for Adalon I figured out a cheesy method with spike traps. Drop 3 spike traps by the stairway leading to Adalon or at a distance where she would have to ddoor over to you, cast some area affect spell on her and run back to where your traps were. She'll ddoor right on top of the traps and die instantly. Cheesy way of doing it, but I prolly reloaded 20+ times because of that stupid Cone of Cold attack she did. Didn't have access to level 8 spells at the time also so couldn't cast abu's.

Xyx made a great work!
They're tough, eh?

I had a very hard time here, as my party was not too high in level..
I used thief traps, skull traps and gliphs of wardings, the only weapons I had against the Hive Mother...

Beholder killin'

this worked for me. I did it with a mage and shadow door.

1) Hide in shadows
2) scout ahead
3) go far enough away that you can just barely not see them
4) if there is an elder orb, send in a few invisible stalkers. The elder orb might launch a fireball and anger his bodies. If not the invisible stalkers are pretty good against beholders anyway.
5) launch cloud spells, ie. cloud kill, abdzammirs, deathfog.
6) then hit, run, and hide.
