Sola mod --is it his fault?

I've started SoA over again (once again, I meant --he he), for I downloaded Sola and Tashia mods. Right now I'm at Nalia's Castle dealing with Trolls.

Well, are these guys a lot thougher than they used to be, or it's just my imagination? Anomen and Tashia have been killed twice so far and we're just heading for the cellars... I know there are "improved Trolls", "improved Vampires" and the likes, but that's horrible! And I mean, HORRIBLE! Because, if I'm having two NPC dead in a couple of minutes, what is going to happen to them when dealing with Bodhi and her gang???

Has anyone played it to the end? Any warnings??

TIA

Cheers

Yeah Aubrey, the Sola mod is tough. Walking the streets of Athkatla at night has become a deadly affair...have you tried the twisted rune yet? OH MY GOD :)

But its great...the game feels brand new again with unknown dangers round every corner (this is the first Mod I've tried so forgive my enthusiasm). I haven't reached the underdark yet and the threat of 'improved mind flayers' hangs heavy over my characters...

You seem to have installed the Improved Torgal from the Sola mod.
;)

Yea, I played it till the very end, and some things have changed. One thing I noticed is that there's Spirit Trolls and Blizzard Trolls in Nalia's Castle now (don't know if they were added in from ToB cause I installed SOLA mod same day as I bought ToB), and that's why it prolly is harder. There's also a Spirit Troll at where Tor'gal resides that seems to be invincible. CTRL-Y 10X didn't even work on him. I don't wanna spoil the rest for you, but enemies are alot harder in my opinion and Cloudkilling from a distance or closing doors tactics don't work all the time now. Just make sure you save alot more =).

will post new bun bun ver 4, soon, with readme for tashia our fav girlie... and some cosmetic changes...
i am playing sola with CORE rules, and BUN BUN, using every bit of cheese to stay alive....

aubrey, the improved torgal seems to be not buggy, but you do run upagainst the unkillable trolls bug built into bg 2...

tehy are in fact unkillable, but when you drop their hp to 1, tehy fall down, if you let up on your attack, and script kicks in so they drop the minhp item that makes them unkillable...

so whack them hardm, then switch to another target, and let minsc with acid arrows finsih it off...

but frag grenade, with g deathblow, does a slay effect, and they die quick...only spectral trolls seem to be seriously buggy, and they fall down, but blizz trolls are above lv 14, so they take a bit of killing...

guys, if you think torgal was cute, try kuroisan, or the extra lich in docks, or kangaxx guards...

hint, for liches try stacked dragon breaths....

for kurosian wait until his spell immunites run out, do not hit him with spells, his super cheesy cloak of mirrors or acid revenge reflectes it bakc at you!!!!

but improved bodhi....

OMG!!!!!!

sola with force cast spell immuniteis required major cheese...dragon breath does nothing, and so i waited for spell immunites to wear off, and bodhi was evil, but could be taken out...

really looking foward to eclipse, supposedly serioulsy kick ass....far, far worse than melissan on insane...

whoo hoo...

bun bun rocks...

My super cheesy way of killing the Acid Samurai. Run into directly into house and wait for his immunites to run off then step out cloudkill run back in step out cloud kill run back in over and over. LoL that was pretty lame, but I was playing solo/insane and went straight for Celestial Fury like I usually do when I get outta Irenicus' Dungeon. Those imroved slave lords also took me by surprise. No more Cloudkill from a distance.

@ kopywrite -- it may be your first mod, but it's not your enthusiasm or your idea. It IS brand new. You can tell by noticing even the reactions of neutral characters, in Rimbald's (?) store, at Wauken's Promenade, for example.

S P O I L E R....................

When you enter the store he casts stoneskin on himself, and Lady Youth on the background does also the same. A matter of precaution, I suppose?

@ Littiz -- I have installed all the improved monsters save for mindflyers. I HATE THESE GUYS!!!!

@genxooseven -- ALL the spirit trolls are invisible! And just think that I don't have Keldorn with his True Sight with me. Yet.

@User -- I didnt' mean they are unkillable, but they are bloody hard to take them down.

Thanks for the rest of info. You just made my day. I'll have to take a deep breath and carry on, I suppose. *sigh*

You mean that when installing the sola mod I have the ability to choose which improvements to install an which not to install? -I know I can just download and test it but I don't have bg2 installed here and I'm asking because I got some imp.AI patches from IEEAIS but I hadn't noticed any patches for vamps so I'm Interested in getting more AI patches or course :)

Yes. The mod is broken into about 10 pieces which can be installed or uninstalled seperately. Running the install walks you through a script which asks yes or no (or uninstall) on each of these pieces.

We were talking about Spirit Trolls, right?

I don't know if it was a bug, but what happened is.....

S P O I L E R........................

...that I was attacking Spirit Troll for half an hour and it was impossible to make it fall down. Can you believe it??? It was Near Death for half an hour and didn't mean to say us goodbye.

I reloaded and started again. Nothing changed!!! My party was out of potions and spells, and only Tashia had just a single Chromatic Orb. She cast it and ...miracle! miracle! The bloody thing was petrified and smashed to hundred pieces. Amen!
After this, I think I need a drink... :(

The best part of the mod, I always feared those guys in PnP, exactly like this!!!
Had to use an User's tactic to rescue Phaere (pre-buff allowed there...): Tashia summons many swords, Immie hastes them,
Jahieria cast Strenght of One!!
Really, nothing else could be done!! :D

And where it was that??? Underdark? Lucky you! I've just finished Nalia's Castle -- and started drinking ;)

P. S. By the way, I much afraid that this time I won't have her with me till the end. I want Solafeuin and Keldorn. Should I drop Aerie instead? Don't know.

I've not seen them do this...is it part of the improved mages section? I didn't install that because of the warning that it may be buggy. have you had any problems?

I've installed Sola mod with all the improvements save for mindflyers. But I have started thinking that I'll bitterly regret the improved Beholders (yiak!)

No, so far I haven't any problems with improved mages, but telling the truth I haven't meet anyone who seemed more powerful than usual. If there is any problem I'll let you all know about it. I'll keep posting under this thread.

Ok, I made it back onto the streets of Athkatla...the new improved underdark encounters were pretty hairy :)

"I've installed Sola mod with all the improvements save for mindflyers. But I have started thinking that I'll bitterly regret the improved Beholders (yiak!) "
The beholders were pretty nasty especially as I has no staff of the magi to hide behind but the mindflayers...weren't too bad actually. Ring of free action, shield of harmony, gallons of potions of genius and mind focusing and the greenstone amulet to block some very unpleasant new psionics and Minsc cleared the lot. The trick seems to be not to skulk around; best to go face to face (tentacle?) with them in order to stop them jumping to where ever you've hidden the rest of your party. Maybe because they're lawful evil they don't like stealthy hit and run?

The improved demon knights had a very nasty new trick which totally caught me on the hop and I paid a high price...Jan Jansen was wiped from the face of the earth. I vowed to return his belongings to his family (except the robe of Vecna naturally :) )

@Kopywrite --- You are not the bearer of good news, are you? ;)

Well, I'm still far away from Underdark, and I know I lack the capacity and the levels required for fighting the gang who possesses the Staff of Magi. But I'll give it a try before I leave Athkatla.

LOL :) it gets worse...

But I managed to get the staff of the magi by using some patented Userunfriendly cheese...had to be quite high level to pull it off because of some of the spells. The days of nabbing it in Ch2 are long gone for now.
