Just curious which you prefer.

I'm working on my first time through the game, but I chose Fire because it looked like the best college for dealing damage. I was rather disappointed by Wall of Fire, but Fireflash has been great. As long as I have adequate mana I can stand up to most anything I've found. I'm in the Black Mountain Mines at level 14, and have had to take a couple trips into town to stock up on mana potions.

The toughest monsters for me right now seem to be the Seething Mass. I think they're some kind of gollum. Funny thing is they're only level 20, and I've found the level 30 Rats to be easier. The Ore Gollums were scarey at first, but as long as I have enough mana I can kill them pretty quick.

I'm also working on the conveyance college. I'm up to Open Cantrip which I need to open locks and I think Teleportation will be real handy.

Conveyance. If only to access teleportation.

Besides that, it really depends on what type of character you're playing. If you intend to be hands on in combat, fire is good. Water is nice for the diplomat types... and so on.

force is the best offensive school. disintegrate is just too easy.

I agree that Force is the best ofensive school:
2) Jolt for mass agregation
4) Bolt the only 4th level damage spell (the elementals damage spell are 3rd)
5) Instakill;

But my favorite school is time

Combine Haste(3rd) with the TimeXXXX(5th) : Supose your dex is 12 than double and double again while your enemys are at half. You start and end the combat in a enemy blink. Very good for dificult fights.
