Please review this game for me

I consider buying this game to my husband. (I might play it myself too, of course). He absolutely loved Planescape and the BG series, and he is less fond off hack'n'slash action games than I am. He especially likes non-linear, open ended story lines in games, and he by far prefers characters and worlds that are not RPG stereotypes - he's an old RPG:er, so I suppose he's fed up with that.
What do you think about Morrowind? Please let me hear your opinions.

Rendelius at
http://www.rpgdot.com pretty much sums up all of my thoughts on the game in his very recent review (check either their main page or GameBanshee's for the exact link), and he and I have about the same playtime on it. To sum up, if your husband or you like open-endedness where you get to determine how your experience will play out... and one that's not too hard on action... similar to EQ in that regard... you both should love it.
My fiance really likes it so there's at least one smart woman who does
. The best RPG since Ultima VII in my opinion.

Well, if you can wait a day, I'll have a review written up, and on the site.

There are some pretty exhaustive reviews out there. Check out the one up at RPGDOT.COM, and also IGN.COM.

Well Planescape was one of my best gaming experiences of all time and I felt no other RPG would match the feeling I got from that game.
While I am not sure if Morrowind can take on Planescape in terms of the depth of the characters and the amazing depth of its story, its an unfair comparison because Planescape was focussed with fewer characters and size just so the story could be so great.
Morrowind on the other hand is enormous and allows one to actually 'live' in a fantasy world that seems more real that you can imagine with so many guilds, quests and places to explore. It ihas actually challenged Planescape for my top RPG spot and I think that says a lot considering I didnt think it would ever be topped. Simply, if you love RPGs in terms of assuming a role and convincing yourself the place you are in exists and you are the character you are roleplaying, Morrowind will be your ultimate pc gaming experience in my opinion. No other cRPG up to now allows you to feel the sense of immersion that you are really that character in that world and once the hundreds of hours are gone and you finally feel Morrowind is over <and you have done a lot of the hundreds of quests and explored the massive land> you will think 'My goodness, what in heavens name was this.. this was just a game??'
Yes, you see, I recommend you get it

I would agree with Viz on this, the game is really something to be experienced. It is a pretty remarkable achievement I think, it goes beyond anything that I have seen before.

Most definitely DO buy this game.
In terms of freedom and open-endedness, there simply isn't any competition. None whatsoever.
As for graphics, sound and character creation, there are many reviews out there, so there's no need to go over that, except to mention that it feels like you're inside the Lord of the Rings movie.
One of the things I like the most about the game is the sense of character development, i. e., how you can slowly grow stronger through training and practice, instead of quest solving. This makes the game incredibly immersive.
Anyway, as a former avid Daggerfall player, my opinions are a bit biased.

What's the combat system like?

Well, I covered it a bit more in my review, but here's the gist of it. Thrid or first person. Three combat attacks, chop slahs and thrust. Real time

From rpgdog's review...Even Baldur's Gate looks fairly linear compared to this game.
That's the kinda thing I wanna hear!
(Two more weeks 'til it's out in the UK ...)

And some full-conversion mods are in the worksIf you're looking for a game that will stay on the HD for a while, Morrowind looks to be the game to buy.
Thanks to the ease with which mods are created, there are already scores of add-on quests, characters, items and storylines. Give it a few months and we'll start to see some full-conversion mods hit the web for download and make Morrowind an entirely new experience.
IMO, this is a good game with excellent replayability, as it is currently...mods and add-ons turn it into a great game with unlimited replayability
