Hi,

It looks like you gave him most of the good stuff. Oh well he's only a fighter. Every character type becomes godlike at the end of TOB. I think any mage (or sorc.) of the same level could take him out. Poor Keldorn won't even get to move.

Thanks

@Loffelur, welcome to the forums. In the future, please don't double-post. If there's a mistake in your first posting of a subject, just delete it--you can do that, if you've started the topic. I'll do it for you, this time. :)

Well, well... users of the art can't be beaten on 1 to 1 combat

I'm not sure, but i think the spell maze surpasses any resistances and stuff, and since your paladin has a relatively low intelligence, there'd be plenty of time for any mage to summon LOTS of creatures (via projected images) (damn be that cloak of mirroring, or else after leaving the maze, you'd be surrounded by skulls, and they would be all trapped...).

Then, the creatures would delay your paladin for a little while, until the incredible overpowered imprisonment kicks in...

there are MANY other tactics (such as re-equipping staff of the magi, casting chain cont with clones, and they can cast Spell Imunity, using mislead and Spell immunity, etc), but i doubt this would fail

to beat a mage on 1 to 1, you have to be sneaky...

About the Dispel Magic thing, the spell files stop at level 40 - Inquisitor level 20; so unless you've modified this, you can only dispel up to level 40.

I'll wager UserUnfriendly's Bun-Bun or my Lorelei (essentially a cheesier version of Bun-Bun) could defeat him.

I think even my normal lvl 23 sorc could beat that. Contignacy+trigger=enough protection and then time stop, improved alacrity summon mordekainens sword, planetar, lover resistance, abi dahlsims etc.

A ftr/mage multi wouldn't break a sweat here. Time stop, gr whirlwind, gr whirlwind, you're dead. You'd have to stop him before he timestops, and with Staff of magi/robe of vecna you'd have a devil of a time managing that. A dual could do essentially the same thing with timestop/imp haste then attack.

None of you could stand up to......Jan Janson???ok so i thought it was funny, i used to only play from pure power and i think a straight up fighter, 5*s in dualwield and Katana with acid and celestrail would atleast make your paladins fight interesting, but yea the mage at high level just simply outpowers all other, and the special abilities, bet your paladin wouldent survive a few dragonbreaths??? :(

Robe of Vecna + amulet of power gives umm I think it's -5 to casting time. It makes timestop almost instant.
To win any fighter cast timestop, improved alacrity, then a few lower resistances and then finally pile all your dragonbreathes on him and to be sure summon a couple swords and finish him with some horrid wilting. During that time Keldorn hasn't even got close enough to hit a single time but already he has taken enough damage to die and then there are the swords. With staff of magi the mage can go instantly invisible if he somehow survives the blasting. Sure Keldorn can do true sight but that will be too late then.

This works even better with a sorc because sorcs get more dragonbreathes.

Hate to flame your enthusiasm, but what do you expect if you come
at the Bg2 Temple and challenge the guys here to beat a PLAIN
warrior???!! :D
There are countless (safe) methods to beat one of those..
We all know they're strong but they ARE limited.
Nice char, though. ;)

@Izgoth: if I'm not mistaken DragonBreath bypasses magic resistance... no need to cast lower resistance....

And an NPC at that.
@Littiz-You're not mistaken, Dragon Breath does bypass magic resistance.

While I agree that a mage of any sort surely would best a warrior of any sort, there is no denying that Keldorn is a very useful NPC, and a very likeable one at that!
Just read his ToB ending storyline.
IMO 1 on 1 doesn't reflect what is needed in SoA and ToB.
Mainly because enemy fighters dont suffer as much as enemy mages from poor AI. Meaning Keldorn wont have any problem at all against any enemy mage.

Even the worst mage ever could do it WITHOUT spells...
Come on guys, why nobody said this yet??! :D

Procedure Keldorn_Is_Killed (BOOLEAN)
While (Keldorn is alive) repeat:
{
Worst_Mageling_PC_Ever: equips Staff of Magi
Keldorn: Reveals PC with True Sight (for 0,1 microseconds)
Worst_Mageling_PC_Ever: equips Staff again
Worst_Mageling_PC_Ever: whacks freely
}
Return (TRUE)

@Loffelur: don't feel like you're being flamed, it's only
our warm welcome to the forum! ;)
But where have you gone???

I think we embarassed him :o :( :D .

One word: Imprisonment.

@Littiz: shame on you for cheesing unnecessarily roleplay boy =)

I dunno about imprisonment. I mean you don't really win you just cancel the contest. Someone could come along and freedom him and no harm done. If you have some funky strrategy where you imprison, do stuff (summon a mess of stuff for example), then freedom I guess thats kosher but man is that a lot of work.

You'd still be "beating" him, inasmuch as he would be permanently incapacitated (unless someone else freed him, which in a one-on-one battle is unlikely). It's about as cheesy as you can get, but still a valid way of defeating a foe, given that you don't mind not being able to get their loot afterwards.

@Glod: hmm, don't know, after all I don't even think it should be dispellable, as all the permanent effects granted by items aren't....
I don't even know what "re-equip" may mean, as you have always the Staff in hands.
A little re-equip work only makes things even again! ;)

@Ode: But you DO take the loot with Imprisonment!
Just come back after a while, cast Freedom, and ASK him for his
items, threatening him with another Imprisonment!!!
He'll be naked in no time :D

Well there is always protection from magic scrolls... hmm deja vu... I remember this discussion, but anyway magic user wins battle but Keldorn is a great NPC.
