Dumb question - what is MMORPG?

Ok - obviously I know what an RPG is - but what is an MMORPG? The term shows up frequently in the varions archives on this site.
Myth and magic? Might and Magic? But what is the "O" for?
(feeling really stupid)

Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game
Everquest is one example of an MMORPG
Massively Multiplayer refers to the fact that unlike traditional multiplayer which limits you to a small number of players (bg allows 6) EQ servers generally have in the neighborhood of 2,000 players living out there virtual lives in a persistent world.

i also didn't have a clue what that meant- i guess that makes 2 of us!
