A weird scroll...

Hi, again.
(*it must be the day of "keep-asking-questions"*)

After the fight in Guarded Compound, at Temple District I found a weird scroll, which reads:

POSSIBLE SPOILER (I really don't know, but anyway....)

(Title)
I was trying to convince Melissan to leave you alone, Imoen!

(Subject)
Get over yourself, little girl. I never asked you to come, did I?

What do you make of it??

Cheers

Never had it!!Where did you get it?
Do you by any chance have ascention installed?

Very strange. Those are definitely some of the dialogs from Ascension, but how they got onto a scroll on SOA??!!

Check with SK what the item code in your inventory for it is. I suspect it's a damaged .itm file.

I've encountered similar in exactly the same place, but my scroll was one from BG1! It was a message you find on the body of a dead halfling messanger south of the friendly arm inn. Strange.

This kind of wierdness is caused by the .ITM file referencing the wrong entries in dialog.tlk.

I have found also the scroll kopywrite mentions!! It's the letter of Mirianne's husband (you meet her in Beregost). What's going on?

I'll check them in SK --if I still have them, that is-- and I'll let you know.

@ Kassaras --

I found both of them in Guarded Compound while looting the building :D

Yes, I have Ascension installed, but I don't think that this mod alone caused the problem. Something else is wrong.

@ Sojourner --

How can I check it and remove the damage file or to fix it? Not a compurter genius here...

The scroll must pertain to something in the game in which the necessary conditions weren't met...hence some other scroll is dropped in...maybe something to do with Nalia? She wasn't in my party, was she in yours Aubrey?

Something similar happened when I played through bg1 and carried the pc into bg2...I wanted to keep Gorion's final letter to me (the one you find in the return to Candlekeep...I'm a sentimental idiot sometimes) so I did the spacebar trick at the start of bg2 to keep my inventory. The damned note turned into something else! Bah!

What is the item code? (You can see this with ShadowKeeper.)

@ Sojourner --

SK resource: RUNENOTE
BGII override directory: RUNENOTE.ITM

Should I delete it or change it? but to what??

@ kopywrite --

Yes, I have had Nalia with me, and the previous times as well. But this has never occured before...

Twisted rune then...a baldurdash fixpack put a rogue stone in with the guarded compund to try and tie the two together...maybe its that, messed up by any subsequent mods?

It doesn't exist in un-moded ToB - it was added to your game by one of the mods. It sounds like either dialog.tlk wasn't properly updated so that RUNENOTE's description indexes are pointing to invalid entries, or another mod over-wrote those entries. It may be necessary for the mod that added it to work correctly.

Here is what my BGII installation pack includes:

*SoA
*SoA official patch
*ToB
*ToB official patch
*Ascension mod (I think it's WeiDu mod, not sure though)
*Nalia's Romance
*Nalia's Romance fix patch
*Tashia mod (latest, full version)

Have we scripting problems? Should I unistall and reinstall all of them?

Have in mind that three days ago I had problems with Tashia mod --you know, this "I-am-not-going-anywhere" problem? Then I unistall all of them, deleted all the entries from pc registry and did reinstalling taking care to leave Tashia to be the last one. After that everything worked just fine. I went back to Copper Coronet (where I had left her) and she talked to me, asking to continue together (something like that anyway).

What do you think? Any suggestions? How much likely is it for me to have serious problems as I'll be procceeding with the game?

You may or may not experience more problems. Do you know what mod had the RUNENOTE.ITM?

It's part of the Nalia romance. I just downloaded a new copy of it and had a look at the scroll and it does exactly the same thing. Maybe that mod isn't Ascension compatable.

Do you have the WeiDU version of Ascension?

@ Sojourner --

I've forgotten to tell that I've also Sola mod installed. If my memory serves me right, it has been installed right after Nalia's Romance.

And, no, I don't know which mod it was. Sorry! Do you know of any way to check it out?

Are in Sola mod any Rune Assassins who attack you in the streets of Amn, especially at night. Because that's what I read on my subtitles screen.

And something else: this "Rune Assassin" or "Rune Mage" thing appeared also with the two mages living north-west of the Dock's District. You know, the house Rylock points you to in order he allow you enter Harpers' compound... From previous plays I know that this wrong, but how I can check the mods, it's a mystery to me :(

Cheers

P.S. Ooops! I hadn't read Mr. Flibble's post.
@ Mr Flibble -- If Nalia's Romance is not compatible with Ascension, then we have indeed a problem. I'll try to unistall it, but I have to check if it's possible to unistall this and this alone....
