Win xp and planescape

Well I am having major problems running torment in xp, as soon as i travel to another area the game crashes ive tried running it in compatability mode but to no avail any ideas?
Make sure that your video and sound card drivers are the most current version, and that you have the correct version of DirectX for WinXP.
What version of the game do you have? The 2-CD or the original 4-CD version? What kind of error message are you getting when the game crashes?
