Constant Effect Enchant -- Spoiler/Cheat

This may be old news, but I did not see it in any earlier threads so I'm posting. Basically, it's a way to enchant items to given them constant effects using *any* soul gem. That's right. A constant effect using a petty soul gem containing the soul of a diseased rat? It can be done. You don't have to use up your Golden Saint Grand Soul Gem.

How do you do it? You do need to trap a Golden Saint, but you only need to do it once. Then, boosting your enchant skill as high as possible, design your item as if you are going to use the Golden Soul Gem. Set it for constant effect. At the last minute, change the soul gem being used. Anyone can take its place, but the constant effect remains. I just designed a constant effect invisibility amulet using a greater gem with a dremora (I think) and then designed a constant effect water breathing ring using a petty soul gem containing a rat soul. Both worked and I still have the Golden Saint gem in my inventory.

Ok, there is more glitches with enchanting. Dunno, an exquisite amulet can hold a fortify stat 24 constant effect. What happens if you enchant it with constant fortify stat by 0-48 points?
Well, everytime one unwears and wears the amulet again, a new random number is chosen :)
And how often does one generally unwear the amulet.. practically never. Just needs some tries to get a high random number, but even on every second try you'll get higher than those 24.

heheh...that's a good tip, Boney :) . I'm going to try that...

@Reckless: You need to make sure that the smaller soulgem has enough charges to power your constant effect, however. You won't often be using anything less than 55 points in most exquisite items and, since I've never been able to trap anything bigger than a 50-pt mob in a lesser soulgem, I often have to resort to common soulgems for this 'cheese' effect ;) .

Actually, I've powered a number of constant effects using petty soul gems containing rat souls. But that might be because I tend to use constant effect for things like water breathing, flying and night-eye more than stat attributes. I think the problem is not with the size of the gem, but with the item's ability to hold the enchantment.

have you tried a constant effect restore health while diving underwater??

i have a constant effect health 1-8 points and while taking damage from drowning i noted the health bar fluctuated every second or so...

a restore anything will re roll every second, but not sure about fortify.....

fortify does do that, but seriously, look...

a restore helath amulet or ring....

two slots left...

better off with a offensive magic ring or amulet, and a free slot for

constant effect levitation, a mandatory item in the game
or knock ring, opens locks,
another offensive magic ring...

sure, if your speechcraft is low, but using my fortify attribute exploit, you can raise speechcraft to god like level s with enough cash...

(just prepare a spell to raise per to above 100, and go train at sadrath mora....cast before training with skinks.... you can train speech to 100 with personality of 10!!!)

@Reckless: Yeah...that's what I was so clumsily trying to explain. I've powered a number of the smaller constant enchantments with petty and lesser gems, but...trust me...if the soulgem only holds 30 charges you have to make sure your constant effect only needs 30 power or less. It really only makes a difference with the high-end items (ie. 'exquisite' ring, etc.), but it is a consideration.

@UU: Restore Health/Fatigue seems to work differently than the rest (may just be my experiences, but...). I have found that if I place a 'restore fatigue' 2-3 points, I ALWAYS get the lowest restoration (eg. 2) from the item. So it may be a waste of EP to vary the restore's numbers.

Also, is 'Charm' bugged ? I can cast this or place it in a charged item and it seems I don't need to worry about Speechcraft, Personality, etc. If I cast a 10-pt minor charm on an NPC multiple times, it has the effect of raising their disposition to 100...and it doesn't seem to go away, even days later! It's a very simple enchantment and seems to unbalance the Speechcraft skill (by making it nigh-worthless) quite a bit.
